first of all I would not cheat on my husband because I "couldn't control myself" I would have to be very unhappy in my marriage to even concider having an affair or one night stand.
I was in a bad relationship with an abusive man for 5 years in the early 90's and I was very unhappy. I cheated on him one day with a mna I had known for years. I couldn't live with the quilt and I confessed the next morning. Our relationship eneded the next week when I left him. He beat me very badly when I told him what I did and the following wek he threatened to do it again. I got my kids and some clothes and we left.
I think if you cheat you owe it to your partner to be honest and tell them what you have done. They may find out from someone else and that would only make matters worse.
