Help!

How do you get the "smokey eye" look?

I don't want the one that's completely smeared all across the face - like I just woke up and forgot to take my makeup off the night before.

But the real sultry, sexy look that Catherine-Zeta Jones and Selma Hayek make look so wonderful (of course they make everything look wonderful...)

Hi Michelle!

First decide on the colours you want to use: black, charcoal, grey, plum, brown...smokey eyes are usually done with dark colours.

All you need to do is place the dark colour on your lid so from your lash line up to your crease. Make sure to blend well because otherwise, it will just look like you just plopped the colour on. With an angle brush, you'll need to take that colour and sweep it just underneath your lashes thus replacing your actual eyeliner. Wet that same brush and using the same colour, draw in your eyeliner on the top of your eyelid close to your lash line. Finish the look off in black mascara and voila! All done!

I do mine with liquid eyeliner and dark eyeshadow; I draw on a line with the liquid eyeliner and then take a fine brush and go over (and a bit above) the line with eyeshadow--it softens up the line. (my bottom eyeliner I do with a smudgy pencil that's lighter than the liquid and eyeshadow so it's not so severe). You can make the line as thick or thin as you like.

I use a dark brown liquid eyeliner (which actually tends to look black) and usually, dark brown eyeshadow, though sometimes for fun and to match I use a dark blue or dark green eyeshadow.

Just a note Michelle, do the eyeliner last. When you apply it first, it gets lost under all of that powder. Eyeliner after eyeshadow, mascara is the very last step
