I had it done last Thursday at Hartford Hospital in CT. The cramping and discharge were minor but I now have a Urinary Tract Infection. I am on 1000mg of cipro and had a CT Scan today to rule out a kidney stone. As part of the procedure, the doctor has to empty your bladder with a cath and some people are more prone to infection. I am one of those people. If I change the laundry detergent, I will likely get an infection. Are you considering it?

I am scheduled to have this surgery and I am wanting to know if you are still pleased with the surgery? Do you still have spotting and if so is it frequent? Sorry for the nosey questions! Any other info you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Also, did you need a cath? I was told the actual procedure takes 90 seconds??

Is there a board of review that your doc had to complete in order to be able to do this procedure?

I had my surgery about 5 years ago. I still only have a few days of spotting. No, you won't need a cath, when I had it done it was an outpaitent procedure. I don't know how long the procedure takes, but it seemed like waiting to get in to have it done was what took so long.

I don't know anything about your last question...maybe someone else will be able to help you with that.

Good luck....Connie

Doctors usually don't have to take boards for special procedures but do a certain amount of procedures a year to keep up their license. Most fields have a recertification for the boards every few years. I'd talk to the doctor doing the procedure and find out how many he/she has done, success rate, complication rate. The hospital can provide that info, too. Also, you can check state medical board web sites and see if there are any outstanding law suits - that doesn't always mean the doctor did anything wrong but can alert you to questions to ask.

I always advice people to see the best doctor at one of the top hosptials for anything that requires anesthesia, even outpatient.

Hope this helps.

I had the Novasure procedure done in late Nov for heavy bleeding and cramping, it worked well after the first few months no more bleeding or discharge. In March I began getting the worst pain and cramping of my life, my boyfriend took me to the hospital, 3 days later and every test there was they said maybe I had the flu. Now it's Oct and I finally just found out thru exploratory surgery, that i have extreme thickening of the uterus as well as severe endometritesos, and need a hystromecty, as well as my appendix out and also my bowels are all messed up, is there any one else out there who this has happend to? I'm scared to death, I have had this pain now off and on since March, have been unable to work ect, I feel like I've lost my life

I am so sorry to hear about what has happened to you. I am sure you must be very afraid and you may want to get a second opinion about your condition, if for no other reason to give you some peace of mind.

rarely798, I'm so sorry to hear about what you are going through. Please keep me posted on whats going on with you... I'm really concerned.

I'll apologize in advance to everyone for the following novel.

I had the Novasure procedure done in March 2006, following years of heavy bleeding, severe clotting and painful cramping. What you are experiencing sounds so much like what I'm going through.

My bleeding following the procedure was very typical from what I had read, and gradually slowed and pretty much went away. However, in September 2006 I had what I thought were the most painful cramps, kept me up all night, even Vicodin didn't seem to help. The next day I saw just a little bit of spotting but not much. This happened a couple of times, at irregular times of the month. I met with my doctor who gave me orders for an ultrasound.

The Sunday prior to my ultrasound, Oct. 22, 2006, I woke up in the middle of the night with the most excruciating pain. Absolutely Horrible. My Gynecologists office called a small prescription in for pain medicine and said to proceed to my scheduled ultrasound appointment on that Tuesday.

The day of my ultrasound, the Technician said my Uterus is extremely enlarged and thickened and that I have several fibroids. She also commented that she couldn't believe my doctor hadn't given me a hysterectomy following my ultrasound earlier in the year. I told the technician that my doctor had told me I only had one fibroid that wasn't all that bad, and that she really didn't know why I was having all the heavy bleeding and cramping. The Novasure Procedure should relieve most of my symptoms. The technician then told me that maybe my doctor didn't know how to read the reports because my Uterus had shown to be severely enlarged in my initial ultrasound and that it also showed all of the fibroids as well.

Anyway, my excruciating pain continued last week until I finally went to the emergency room, October 27, 2006, where they gave me a CT Scan. The E.R. report said possible early Diverticulitis, several large uterine fibroids and thickened uterine wall. I was put on Flagyl and Cipro for the possible infection and sent away with pain medication.

Following my ultrasound report, my Doctor had me come in to her office, October 30, 2006, for a cervical dilation to try and release some of the backed up blood in my uterus. Oh my God, the pain was excruciating because my cervix is covered with scar tissue from the healing process following the Novasure procedure. She had to break through the scar tissue to get through.... I was balling my eyes out the pain was so great. Good news though, the biopsy came back benign.

Anyway, I'm still in pain... but its a little better now because I'm not eating anything more than broth and a little jello. A bad way to start a crash diet, I've lost about 15 pounds since this all started a week and a half ago.

I'm not sure where this is all going, now I'm following up with my primary care doctor this coming Monday regarding the possible Diverticulitis, I've requested copies of my records from my Gynecologist because I'm thinking I need a second opinion. Who can go on living this way? Yes, I do need to lose a lot of weight, but I'm not sure its healthy to go for weeks on end eating just broth and jello.
