XM radio 144 was reporting today that NASCAR has announced that they are planing some changes for the Chase for the Cup. What???
They also would like fan input because they don't really know what the changes are going to be. What???
Here's my suggestion: Mandatory drug testing for the sanctioning body everytime they start talking about making changes!
Now I'm not against change but pretty soon there are going to be earthquakes throughout the Carolines everytime NASCAR opens it mouth. These earthquakes are going to be caused by the turning in the graves of the true blue - the real NASCAR racers from the past. Keep the safety innovations going. All this other BS needs to go the way of the horse drawn carriage.
There comes a point when you are stiring up something so much that if you go one step too far it will ruin the end result. You could have stopped short and had perfection. How close is NASCAR to crossing the line that instead of gaining new fans they start losing them?

It's funny that you mentioned this - it was going to be something I was going to post. Yes, just the idea of changes has some people nervous! And with good reason, many of the changes haven't been that easy to swallow! BUT, Brian France said that he wasn't going to make major changes, just tweak a little. From what I am understanding though, he is taking driver and fans opinions under consideration. So, what would you like to see changed? The changes are primarily supposed to affect the Chase format. Here is what I think should be worked on:

1)More points to the winner - not included any bonus points, the winner should get at least 20 points more than the 2nd place driver.

2)Less penalty for finishing 35th or worst. Make the points the same from 35th on down.

3)Have the Chase include top 10, any driver with a win, and any driver within 100 points of the 10th place driver.

Well, that's my thoughts, please share yours as well!

I like your suggestions. Here are my additions:
1. I would suggest adding a road course to the chase.
2. I would get rid of the top 35 guanteed spots for each race. It works for the first 5 races but after that forget it. I think Michael Waltrip has shown this year that the top 35 thing doesn't matter as long as you have the sponsor and the cash to move to another ride. There are people who are sent home who have faster cars than some of the people who make the race. Some of those teams are a one car operation and need to make as much money as they can to keep racing. Their qual speeds may be fast but they still might not get the chance to race to earn points because they are not in the top 35. Maybe only the top 10 should be guaranteed starting spots. That's the magic number for the chase anyway.
***DO NOT CHANGE: Tony's celebration for the sake of "safety". I hope they will continue to allow each racer to do their own signature celebration after winning a race. (Thank God, Kurt Bush gave up that "angel in the snow" business on his own---ughh!!!)
Can't wait until Tuesday to see what fines will be handed out for the weekend.~always interesting~
