Hi,
I'm having a wee bit of trouble with my ripple afghan. It's done with a Q hook. My problem is I seem to have too many stitches at the end of my rows. I've ripped it out 3 times; not looking forward to a 4th (although with a Q hook it goes quickly). Please help me.

Make sure at the end of your rows that you are skipping stitches. I am assuming that you have "valleys" (I call the part where you skip stitches valleys and the part where you add stitches "Peaks") at then end of your rows. Ripples are made by increasing and decreasing the same number of stitches. So your ending might be something like this: **3 sc in next sc, sc in next 7 stitches, skip next 2 stitches, sc in last stitch turn.** Does that help you at all ? :music:

That makes so much more sense! I started making increases, then stopped and ripped out because there was no mention of increases in the pattern, and I thought I was doing it wrong. Thank you so much for your help. If only everyone would write COMPLETE patterns and not assume people know what they're doing

The mind is the first thing to go. I meant to type DECREASES, but for some strange reason, increases was typed. Sorry!

LOLOL! I remember my first ripple. and the lady who showed me how never mentioned the decrease at the end of each row. so i was about 20 rows into it and held it up to admire my work. EGAD! it looked like a flat tulip! it got bigger and bigger and bigger. it was hilarious. after that, i started counting at the end of each row, realizing that i was adding one stitch at the last peak, that had to be dropped at the end. after figuring this out on my own (didnt have internet at the time), had no trouble after that. i just had to share, 'cause i laughed out loud when i read this, remembering how pitifull my first ripple looked before i realized what i was doing wrong. now, a ripple afghan is one of my favorites. and there are MANY different variations of it.

I am pretty sure we have all crocheted something the hard way but of course we then learned from it. The first thing I ever crochet was so tight and it took me forever to finish and I swear it probably would of made a great bullet proof vest!

When I made my first ripple afghan years ago. I used bobbie pins to mark the increases at the top of the row. Even today I have to count and more count. Anne eek
