[color:"darkgreen"] Does anyone here have family that try to impose their children or grandchildren on you, and they do so because your childfree? If so, isn't it annoying? Especially those of us who do not like children and feel uncomfortable around them. I do not like children, nor do *I* care to be around them. They annoy me to no end. Yet, however, some family still feel they need to impose their children on me. Do any of you have this problem?

If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him."

YES!!! In a big way. My family is very child oriented and they are constantly ramming the kids down my throat! The latest is my birthday weekend scenario. My parents are coming to visit specifically for my birthday. My mother calls and says she would like my nephews to stay with us at my house for most of the weekend!!! How rude!!! I am currently working on a compromise so that she can see her grandchildren on the trip, but my plan for my birthday was not to spend it with the kids! Anyway...this is just one example I have...there are countless from my sister expecting me to help her watch the kids at the drop of a hat to my mother expecting me to accomodate her...ARGHHH!!!!

[color:"darkgreen"] I hope all works out for you, AntiKid. Freespirit, you are very lucky. My in-laws like children a lot, but I however, do not. Everything they do is centered around kids. If they grandchildren are not present, they talk about them or there own grown kids a lot. I think they just don't have much of a life of their own.

I've always felt that both my and my husband's parents fully support our decision to not have kids - in fact it's never really been a topic of conversation - but last Easter my mother-in-law was being a little strange. I think I've posted about this before, but we were making plans to get together for the holiday and we were going to stay at a hotel. My MIL made this big deal out of how we should remember to bring our bathing suits because the hotel has a swimming pool and we could play in the pool with my husband's four year old nephew. It was really weird because my husband and I have never paid any attention to this kid. I'm not sure if she thought playing with the kid would get our parental juices stirring or if she was doing it for my sister in law's sake - maybe it hurts her feelings that we don't dote on her kid - but we didn't bring our bathing suits at any rate.

Mother always said that even when things seem bad there's someone else who's having a worse day. Like being stung by a bee or getting a splinter or being chained to the wall in someone's sex dungeon.
