[color:"magenta"] I agree whole heartily that it's bad when one thinks that you get married only b/c it's the next step, instead of having a wonderful companion. (Among others) The same thing with babies. They are NOT a nesessity to life. People go through life having not ever married or not having kids, and they do just fine.

If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him." --Katherine Hepburn

[color:"magenta"] Oh and btw, despite what some religious fanatics say, God will not strike you down if you do not have kids, nor will you go to hell.

Hi there, I'm married with two young children, and I couldn't be happier. But I do not understand why anyone would pressure others to have children. We aren't all little robots with the exact same feelings, thoughts, and desires! If anyone ever pressures you, you might ask, "So, would you like to be a child of a person who really didn't want to become a mom?" or "Why would presume to know what is best for me? Should I do the same to you?"
The only person whose business it actually is would be your husband or boyfriend or any man with whom you're sexually intimate.

I have no idea why others feel that they need to pressure or even hint, about others having children. Also, more importantly, is not all kids turn out what you'd expect (or raise them to be). While I give all the credit in the world to people who do raise wonderful people, not everyone is up to the task. I'd be terrible, hince the K.H. quote below. Too many people take something that is private, and make it their business. Never right if you ask me!

Thanks everybody again for their warm welcome!
Hey, IndependantWoman! I'm sorry to hear about your friend... It's amazing how many people choose that same path, though, and some even stick to it even if it doesn't make them happy!
I guess that there are so many people in this world, and we're all so different, that it's actually silly to think that there are only two or three ways to be happy, and these ways should be the same for all of us. I believe that everybody makes their own path... As long as you don't harm anybody, do what pleases you the most!
You know, WaterLily, I totally agree with you... I think God is far more understanding than we give Him credit for... I'm positive He's far more understanding than many people we know! I'm a Catholic, by the way, and I know that religion speaks against being childfree... But, really, I prefer to remain childfree rather than being a horrible parent!
Hey, Ally, yours is a wonderful question... I'm glad you're happy with your children, and if that's what you chose for your life, stick with it and be happy! I don't know why people want to pressure others to have children. I assume it's intolerance for those things they can't understand. Many people take children as a "norm", as a natural step in life, and they certainly don't understand people who choose differently, and therefore can't accept them.

Hi ladies! It's been a while since I've been on here and it looks like the board has gotten more active. Yay! Anyways, my name is Heather, I am 26 years old and very happily married to my soulmate. We are also happily childfree! It's so great to chat with other CF'ers...living in the Bible belt can be lonely at times.
I also love the Katherine Hepburn quote by the way. My feelings EXACTLY!

Hey Heather- I just moved to the Bible Belt a couple years ago so my husband could finish his graduate degree. It's definetly not easy getting used to the small town, family ideas. I have to defend my choice not to have kids all the time or people are just shocked that I don't want to reproduce. A collegue told me just today how funny it is when I run away from the co-worker turned stay at home mom comes in with her baby. I really don't run away. I say hi and go to back to my office. I just don't ooh and ahh for 30 min. Not to mention the girl changed the baby's diaper on our conference table!!!!

I run when the babies come into the office...I run fast and I don't look back...
Mother always said that even when things seem bad there's someone else who's having a worse day. Like being stung by a bee or getting a splinter or being chained to the wall in someone's sex dungeon.
