That is the question Bubbles.

We have the first amendment which states freedom of religious expression, then others that say our laws are base don the bible.

What really gets me is when people use bible verses that us the word homosexual. The word is a 20th centruy word. So if you are going to use a bible verse against me.. use the correct translation LOL But then again when they get going I whip out even more verses about other admonishment they don't mention that are against heterosexuals. On of my favorite quotes says there are over 450 admonishments against hetersoxual people and only 6 against homosexuals... who is more in the wrong here! LOL

The real problem is translation. The most accurate translation of any text will be in its original language.

The Torah (which Christians call the Old Testament) was written in Hebrew. Most Christians are not fluent in Hebrew, so they have to rely on translations. The most common translation was first into Greek. It's now been translated from the translated language! Then, the Christian Bible was written in Greek. So, unless someone is conversing to you in Hebrew or Greek, that person is NOT using an original language. Anyone who speaks at least two languages can tell you that there isn't always only just one way to translate a passage.

Second, if someone thinks that engaging in homosexual sexual acts is against his religion, then I'd highly recommend that he cease at once!

I live in the US, and we do have a first amendment that gives us freedom of religion. If someone's religion forbids working on the Sabbath, is is wrong of an employer to insist that he work on the Sabbath. However, that does not give the person the right to insist that everyone else rest on the Sabbath as well! That idea almost sounds silly, but it's the very same concept that someone -- whose religion tells him that homosexuality is wrong -- is practicing when he tells a homosexual that being gay is "wrong."

The next time someone hassles you, ask, "Do you believe in freedom of religion?" If the person says, yes, then ask, "Then why are you insisting that I must follow your religion?" (But personally, I'd never tell them what religion you are; no use adding fuel to the fire. How can they argue against your religion if you don't tell them what it is?!)

If people get really mean and nasty and start yelling all kinds of hateful things, you might ask, "Excuse me (very, VERY politely), I don't know much about Christianity. Is your current behavior what your Bible teaches?" If the person is so dense that he doesn't understand the irony of what you asked, then say, "I'm so terribly sorry. But your religion just sounds so violent and hateful. I'm afraid it's not for me!"

The extreme right that behave in such a horrid manner are such complete hypocrites. They're supposed to "love thy neighbor" and "judge not, lest ye be judged," and it's quite apparent that more than a few are not practicing what they preach -- quite literally!

Are Homosexuals supost to have more morals then strats? am i suppost to act like a slut because i am strait and a lesbian act like a prudish nun?

The Torah (which Christians call the Old Testament)

Just an FYI.. In its narrowest sense, Torah the first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy, sometimes called the Pentateuch. In its broadest sense, Torah is the entire body of Jewish teachings. Now what non-Jew's (Gentiles) call the Old Testament is in fact called the Tanakh to us. Acronym of Torah (Law), Nevi'im (Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings). Written Torah; what non-Jews call the Old Testament.

Just thought I'd get that out there. It is a common misconception or misquote. I wouldn't be a good Jew if I didn't point it out! LOL

I am totally against PDA as well. PDA aka Public Displays of Affection. A peck on the lips yes, full on groping, tongue swalling, petting NO!

Also I think it is sweet when the one you love reaches out and grabs your hand in a sign of love and affection like there is no other person in the world except the two of you. *swoons*

Ally,

I always do the "kill them with kindness" routine.

Goes something like this....

1. ask them if they believe in a higher being. they of course say yes
2. ask them if they believe in G-d. They of course say yeah.
3. Ask them if G-d in omnipotent and never wrong. They of course say yes.
4. Ask them if they believe in this G-d. They say yes.
5. Ask them if they believe G-d is never wrong and always loving. They say yes.
6. Ask them if G-d makes mistake. They say no.
7. Ask them if G-d created them in his image. They say yes.
8. Then ask them if G-d is omnipotent, all-loving, powerful, never makes a mistake, and we are created in his image.. then what about gay people is wrong? Don't they deserve the same love? And who is it our place to question G-d.

Get's em every time. Thanks to my wonderful Divinity professor who brought up homosexuality in class one day and said for an automatic A in the class, we challanged us to come up with an argument that would make homosexuality fine. This was the argument I came up with.. needless to say this gay jewish man done got himself an A in his Biblical Exogesis class! I was the FIRST in the professors 27 year career to be able to argue the point. Too bad he didn't know I was the gay jewish boy! Someone else did and the university wasn't so forgiving.. thats another story though. LOL

We were at six flags last week, and standing in front of us in line for the Superman ride was a lesbian couple - fairly young, maybe early twenties, late teens. I was there with my 14 yr old son and my 12 yr old nephew; and I just kept waiting for the comments or giggling or something. These girls weren't being gross (frenching or anything) but they were holding hands, and were definitely a couple. And I just wasn't sure how my two adolescent boys were going to react.

They never even blinked! I kept holding my breath, but nothing was ever said. After the ride was over I tentatively asked them if they had noticed the couple in front of us, and my nephew said "the two girls?" and I said "yeah", and he goes, "what about them?" so I just said, "One had a cool tattoo." They obviously didn't think it was a big deal that they were a couple, so I wasn't going to turn it into one for them.

I was so proud!!!!

Oy -- I can't believe what I wrote earlier. (No shiksa here!) Thanks for the clarification. I was listening to a comedy CD in the background while I typed the previous response and when I was getting ready to write the word Tanakh, the word Torah was uttered on the CD, so the word just stuck in my brain and I wrote it.

Wow, a genuine Jew on these forums. What next? I suppose you'll come up with some crazy statement like you're gay or something...

And, what else can I say but mazel tov on your excellent argument presented to the Divinity professor!

I don't want to pry, but if you care to give any details, my ears are yours.
