I can honesstly say that I have never been afraid of the dark. I am one who cannot sleep if there is any form of light. I do not want to be able to see my hand in front of my face when I am going to bed.

Alexandra, thanks for the full quote. I did even google it before quoting it because I wanted to get it right having heard so many variations on the prayer, and what I wrote was what they posted. Oh well, we all knew it was possible, but here we have proof that google can yes indeed be wrong.

This question is to those of you that said they are or were afraid of the dark:

There are several people that I've met that as adults still have this fear. What are some of the things you did to get over it, or what do you do to "deal" with it?

I would say that most of us never truly entirely "get over" our fear of the dark. It is primal I think to believe there are predators lurking when the sun goes down- jungle law. I see that clearly in cities - the urban jungle - the most. To combat that I tried to live with the dark as much as possible when we lived in the country... sit outside at night, walk down the dirt roads and look at stars. Still, if the wind blew through the cornstalks a certain way, I would beat it for home with images of the velociraptors from Jurrasic Park clearly in mind! We're all grown up and unafraid until the willies catch us again!
