Hi Everybody!
I'd like to open a new business dealing with web site design, but I know nothing about PRO graphics software. Can you tell me what software to choose and what it will cost me?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Adobe's PhotoShop is the standard, and it is expensive. You'll probably also want Flash and Fireworks for websites, formerly by Macromedia, now owned by Adobe also. Check out the website at adobe.com.

Good luck!

Hi Tanya,

Another program is PhotoImpact XL. My partner is a Web Designer and he uses that program alot with great results. He designed my Knitnak site amongst others.

Hi Tanya,

I agree with both Georganna and Knitnak - I use both Adobe Photoshop and Ulead's PhotoImpact. These are definitely the industry standard, especially Photoshop. Flash is a great one as well for creating animated "movies" for websites - Flash has just become an Adobe product - it used to be made by Macromedia.

If you are on a budget, there ARE some open source graphics program you can try. One popular one is GIMP or Graphics Editor and Image Manipulation available at:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/gimp.html

Some other open source software for imaging is available from Free Serif Software at: http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/software/DrawPlus/default.asp

Best of Luck with your new venture!
June

i dont want to be rude, but... how are you going to open up a website design company if you have never used any design software? as a web / graphic designer myself, i find that to be a little... ridiculous.

This is not a space for criticism - only support. I surmise that Tanya is planning to design (future tense) and is seeking advice in where to start to become proficient in the pertinent software. She has the right idea in realizing that graphic design is a major part of the process.
