I'm trying to teach myself but still confused about where to insert the needle after I've made a row of single crochet. Do I insert the needle under the v of the stitch or through the v? I'm doing an edging of a sweater & it calls for 2 rows of single crochet.

Try using the lessons Eva provides for crochet. They are very helpful. If you're still confused, she is always willing to help.

You can do it both ways, It all depends on what type of look you want. If you insert the hook into the V you will get a ridge on the edging and if you don't want that you insert the hook under.

Thanks so much for your help. So in essence you can do it both ways. That's what was confusing me because some instructions showed one way & some showed the other way.I've been knitting for years & have always wanted to do crochet but could never master it. I'll keep trying. :rolling:

Wow! That sounds like the exact same question I asked Eva the other day.

Thanks for your help by the way. I am in the way of understanding now.

Here's another question for you guys.

I'm on lesson 5 of Eva's online lessons and am learning to hdc. I think I have the hang of it, but am not completely sure.

I have a hard time with the tightness of the yarn loops when yarning over for the final time and pulling through all three loops. I've tried practicing with different size crochet hooks. What to you guys do for easeing the yarn through?

Second, for practice I made 11 chain stitches and hdc'd the chain of 11 after inserting the hook into the third chain. I ended up with 8 hdc's. I know at the end of the row you add 2 chain stitches. Is that supposed to make it add to 10?

I'm just a little confused.

I thank you guys so much for having a place like this to hang out in, and also for the generosity in all the help you give!

Take care!

Great Question Here we go step by step:
ch 11, hdc into 3rd ch from hook***you now have 2 hdc the skipped ch count as 1 hdc and you put one in the 3rd ch*** you have 8 remaining ch that you need to put hdc into. Everytime you start a row with a ch 2 (or 3,4 etc.) that usually counts as your 1st stitch.

Does that help :music:

Yup! You helped me out of another stitchy situation, Eva! (don't groan too much! )

I completely understand the concept. Now it's time for a little more repititon of the hdc's and then on to good 'ol dc.

Thanks so much!

I notice you mention lessons. Where can I find them on this site?

If you look at any of Eva's posts at the bottom it says Crochet Site, or something like that.

If you click on it, it will open up a new window titled Crochet help and Info. Under the heading SUBJECTS lessons library is listed. Click on this, and you will be able to open up each lesson.

(or you can just type in the url www.bellaonline.com/site/crochet and it will open up the same main crochet site)
