Here's an article I read in Time Magazine's website today. I have reprinted the article in its entirety as well as providing the URL where it can be found. It corresponds with the American holiday Father's Day, which is on Sunday. (I didn't know if it was celebrated in other countries...)

It seems to be a great article, aside from the very last paragraph. Man, even after all the reasons given that kids are a pain, they STILL try to make parenthood look good! Sheesh!

Anyway, here is the article. Enjoy!

Thank you, Freespirit, but remember that everything after the URL is a copy of the article -- it is NOT my work. I would never want to take credit for someone else's work.

I thought the URL might not work, so I copied the article itself in my post. The URL still might work if you copy and paste it into the "address" field in your internet browser.

I'm sorry your sister verbally abused you. I agree with you; someone secure about her sense of self would not have verbally abused you. She would have been able to give rational reasons why she hasn't lost her sense of self. When people don't have a good argument, often they result to bullying tactics.

Hrm. It should technically be titled "Does PARENThood Make You Happy?", as I thought it'd be an article about fathers being less happy than mothers, or something. I believe that; I think women are more devoted to relationships, period (I think of just about every relationship I've ever known, in which the woman is almost always more into the man than he is into her; sometimes the discrepancy between feeling is quite large and usually, regardless of the size of the discrepancy, it's pretty obvious and leads to pain on her part and annoyance on his, whether she wants to spend time with him and he's complaining that she's clingy, or she hugs him or holds his hand or something and he wants to know why she keeps hanging all over him). I would not be surprised if that feeling also runs when it comes to parent/child relationships in many cases, where the mother is more devoted).

Okay, I'm seeing that the article itself got deleted from the forum...I take it we're not permitted to copy articles here? Is it against the rules? Just wondering...I wasn't trying to take credit for the author's work, and I hope I made that very clear...

Anyway, here is a working link to the article. (I finally figured it out! Yay!)

[color:"darkgreen"] Interestingly enough, I've seen enough guys that are fathers who are miserable. So much for that aricle! [/color] <img src="/images/graemlins/irish.gif" alt="" />

If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him."
