I have a question for all of you.

Where was the last child-free destination that you traveled to?

I am working on an article about the best child free vacation spots. It is hard to find, since they generally aren't listed any place.

So I want to create our own list!

You can email me privately or post here. Whichever you choose.

Thanks!

Like Kim recommended in her article, travel during the shoulder seasons. My husband and I generally take our vacations in the spring or fall (though not March/Spring Break time) and usually miss the families, and sometimes get price breaks as well for places that are off-season. This year, we went to Ireland in early May, and took a guided bus tour. There was only one child on the tour and he was about 12 and very quiet, hardly knew he was there. I think a bus tour like the one we had was not "child friendly" at all because most of what we did would be boring for children (viewing scenery, long periods on the bus, shopping, visiting historic landmarks and cultural attractions). So, I would definitely consider another guided tour in the future. The one we did was through Trafalgar Tours, and we were very impressed, it was great.

Also, avoid places that advertise "Children under X age free with two paying adults"...you'll definitely be swamped with the kids at places like that!

Any Sandals or Couples resort. I especially recomment the Sandals Halcyon in St. Lucia.

Just a note about the "adults only" resorts. We were stationed in Tunisia a few years ago and were often at the airport for work related reasons, and, okay, I was shopping while he worked. heehee. Anyway, I got to know a few of the tour guides for the adults only resort that is there. I was chatting with one of them when a big family began to surround the gathering place sign for their bus. He groaned and shook his head. These people showed up with two under 12 and a baby. I asked him about the no kids policy and he said they do have one, it is advertised as no kids, but "there is always one that shows up with them anyway." I asked him what they would do and he said there was nothing they could do. If they turn them away the corporation could be sued. He said lots of couples have complained but none of them have sued. I guess some of the "parents" have sued in the past. I told him that we had been planning to go to the resort when my husband had leave again but that this info had changed our minds. He said they had several people write and say they would not go again because of it. He recommended that if we were serious about finding a place that would stick to the policy that when we made the reservations we asked about the refund policy if someone shows up with a kid. If they say they will not refund money for that it means they will do nothing if someone shows up with a kid.

Thought I'd pass on the info. Happy Wednesday Everybody! [color:"purple"]

The only problem with the adult vacation spots is exactly that--they're usually couple-oriented. Which means those of us who are single and just want to go by ourselves or with friends can end up feeling almost as much of a fifth wheel as we would around parents (minus the annoying screaming).

[color:"darkgreen"] I've heard or read somewhere that Sandals Beach and Resorts are for adults only (childfree) I hope that helps you somehow.

If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him."
