This procedure is the new "it thing" in the cosmetic/skincare industry! What do you think of its benefits?

I have tried two home systems that claim microdermabrasion.
Unerstand that I am 45,have olive toned skin with lots of sundamage...I grew up in the baby oil era. I also have a few acne scars but nothing dramatic. I contiue to have t-zone skin and the occasional breakout...though past menopause..
First I tried the Oil of Olay 2 step system...I love the feel of my skin after use. Smooth, soft. Coloring and changes? Not really....
Then I tried the 'sample' kit from Bath & Body works ( cost of about $35) ...a system developed by a dermatologist...the promoted ingredient is MMPi. It has a complete system---2 step micro Derm as well as daily cleanser, a skin regenerator and 2 seperate moisturizers ( day, evening) and an eye cream. No overbearing scents or anything...and if you are a person who enjoys things that have a spa design..the containers, then its awesome. As far as results...at first I thought I could see a fading in age/sun spots on my face...which immediately looked back to the original color when I stopped use. I am a frugal, cheap gal...so I have opted to have Oil of Olay just because I like it so much and my mother used the product years ago. Sometimes however I have to admit that I have used my own facial scrub made of dry milk, baking soda, sugar, sea salt and some herbs I like to throw in ...honestly, I think the texture of my skin after the homemade scrub is as good if not better than the O of O!
I faithfully use sunscreen moisturizer all year.

well thankxxx for giving us your experience! We can all learn from eachother. Mary Kay offers a microdermasion set, if you're interested in seeing results. I think it would be perfect for you based on your age, history, background.

The benefits of microdermabrasion...very beneficial...smoother, younger looking skin. It diminishes fine lines. What's not to like about it?

There are plenty of good home microdermabrasion kits out there but quite honestly, I would leave this one up the professionals for a serious microdermabrasion session.

Microdermabrasion helps in-

Pigmentation
agelines-fine lines
giving new look to aged skin
removes dead skin from the epidermis
superficial spots

You have to get microdermabrasion witha high power machine to get results. that can be performed by doctors. that is sufficient once aweek. If you buy a home microdermabrasion machine, you would perform it everyday. be careful about inhalation of aluminium oxide crystals. This is a good procedure for maintenance of skin.

Microdermabrasion reveals new skin and sloughs off dead skin cells. Result? Definitely radiant , and healthier skin!

I'd recommend Nu Skin Polishing Peel and Mary Kay Microdermabrasion Kit. Too much raves! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Has anyone used the new Neutrogena Body Microdermabrasion System? I am interested in trying it for my feet. I figure it would be cheaper than Pedicures.

This procedure has some issue with inhalation of abrading crystals.

I LOVE IT!
Since turning 30 I noticed brown spots developing on my cheeks from sun damage/acne scars. A round of microderm abrasion sessions got rid of them! It gets rid of lines, makes your skin look healthier--I love it.

I have a tip though...find a salon that owns their microdermabrasion machine. There are two HUGE benefits to this. 1) Your session price is a lot less. 2) It could mean the skin specialist has a great deal more experience--more so than a salon that just bought one and trained someone to use it.

I've paid $150 for a session and my face was red for days and after that I saw no change (they didn't own machine and were new at it.) The place I go to now owns their machine, charges me $60 per session (plus I get a facial) and with the results I get, I feel like I just spent hundreds of dollars.

So, shop around and ask 1) how many years of experience the specialist has and 2) do they own their machine.

I found this great series that explains all that's involved with microdermabrasion.
