I just started on this vest: http://web.archive.org/web/20011117184015/www.cei.net/~vchisam/groovy/7503.html I figured out the pattern through where it says "Work even until piece measures 14 inches or desired length -- 9 pattern rows. End on the 4th row.

After that I get lost. I'm not sure where to fasten on my yarn to start the front, and the vague directions "Work backwards in sc....", "work around fronts", "work other side to correspond", etc.... have really got me confused. Can you help????? THANK YOU!!!!!! You are a Crochet Goddess and I know that if anybody can help, you can.

(And, just BTW, DANG were sizes bigger back then!!!!!! I normally wear a XL or 2XL, but in this pattern a medium will fit me perfectly, and that's what I'm doing is the medium size.)

Blessings. --Kati

Ok what you have right now is the piece made up to underneath your arms (a sort of rectangle piece)so now you will be working on getting the two front parts and the back part, with me so far ? DO NOT cut your yarn at the end of the last row of pattern stitch. Now do your necessary ch to turn, you will be working on your left front, keeping the pattern stitch consistent start the row with a cluster, you need 4 full shells. Once you have the 4 full shells you do a cluster and STOP, now these are the stitches that you will be working on from here on out. Make sure to leave off a cluster stitch every other row, this makes the shaping for the front. They are not using shaping for the armhole, it is just straight. Once you have a cluster, shell, a cluster you work even until the armhole measures 8 inches (this means measure from where you started the left front) once you end off cut your yarn. Now count how many stitches you used across for the left front, having your piece lay down with the left side you just finished to the left, start counting from the right the number of stitches you used for your left, turn the piece so that now the left front you finished is on your right, attach your yarn , work exactly the same as yourleft front. You now have a piece the resembles an U right. Now skip 1 shell and 1 cluster of your original rectangle, attach your yarn, work in pattern (this is the back part). Make sure you work the same number of rows for the left, right, and back. Are you totally confused now ?
