i had read an article that Aspartame cause all sorts of maladies, including methanol toxicity, vision problems, headaches, fatigue, brain cancer, lupus, and even multiple sclerosis. In fact, with the last year, millions of people have reported receiving ominous, official looking email messages about aspartame's alleged hazards.

That email was a hoax. But aspartame is still horrid stuff, so I'd avoid it anyway.

I'm sure that some people are allergic to Aspartame - heck, some humans get burned by even the slightest exposure to the sun. But I doubt that Aspartame is natively toxic to all humans and causes MS in large numbers of them. There is so much Aspartame in our food system that it would be really obvious to researchers if this was true. But that being said, I avoid it myself. If you're eating natural veggies and fish and chicken, you usually don't end up consuming Aspartame

Yeah, Lisa, I agree. No way that the FDA would approve something that was so toxic or so clearly attached to a specific disease. I understand why those that are allergic to aspartame avoid it, but I don't think that those reactions are the norm. Like Lisa said, it is in so many things, so I think it's fine if you consume it every once in a while!

minlilin - what publication are you talking about? I'd be interested to read that. Seems like people are finally coming around to the idea that sweeteners are ok. I'd be interested to know who wrote the original article and who answered?

I was referring to the local papers in which they published a forum section in the newspapers & I can't really remember who wrote in & said that aspartame is safe for consumption but I think it's someone from the FDA I think

Dr. Mercola has an article with the title:
[color:"blue"] [/color] Aspartame: What You Don't Know Can Hurt You
Aspartame is, by far, the most dangerous substance on the market that is added to foods.
Aspartame is the technical name for the brand names NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, and Equal-Measure. It was discovered by accident in 1965 when James Schlatter, a chemist of G.D. Searle Company, was testing an anti-ulcer drug.
Aspartame accounts for over 75 percent of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the FDA. Many of these reactions are very serious including seizures and death.(1) A few of the 90 different documented symptoms listed in the report as being caused by aspartame include: Headaches/migraines, dizziness, seizures, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, rashes, depression, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia, insomnia, vision problems, hearing loss, heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus, vertigo, memory loss, and joint pain.
According to researchers and physicians studying the adverse effects of aspartame, the following chronic illnesses can be triggered or worsened by ingesting of aspartame:(2) Brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, parkinson's disease, alzheimer's, mental retardation, lymphoma, birth defects, fibromyalgia, and diabetes.
For the entire article just go to his website and use the search feature. www.mercola.com

Vegan - Please just post links to other sites - it is illegal to copy as much as you did and to post it here. That is plagiarism, since you don't have his written permission to have used his words.

I am very familiar with Mercola's website - he is very much against a lot of things that are generally safe. I agree with eating natural - but I don't agree that every single thing he says is deadly ... is really deadly. It should be good enough to eat things because they're good for you, without claiming that some substances are poisonous death to every single human.

I agree Lisa...there is a lot of scaring that goes on out there to deter people from eating or drinking certain things. I agree that you should eat things or drink things because they're good for you, but I don't think you have to completely stop eating things you like becasue someone who hasn't done the full amount of research (or uses propaganda) shows that they are "deadly" or really dangerous, etc. Check out the snopes web site that offers a differing view, claiming that the rumors against aspartame are false. Food for thought...
