Lisa,
My son just learned to swallow pills. We tried everything just like you. Then we found out that unsweetened apple sauce worked great. possibly because of tartness.
I must agree that it's hard to believe that this tiny berry can be so nutrient dense, but here is what I found from the National Archives of Medicine. Documented research on the nutrients of goji, and here is what they say:
Goji Berries are the highest Antioxidant known to man, mop up all the free radicals in your body.
They contain all 20 Amino Acids including all 9 essentials
Goji berries contain 21 trace minerals (The main ones being zinc, iron, copper, calcium, germanium, selenium, and phosphorus).
Goji berries are the richest source of carotenoids, including beta-carotene (more beta carotene than carrots), of all known foods or plants on earth!
They contain 500 times the amount of vitamin C, by weight, than oranges making them the richest vitamin C source on earth.
Goji berries also contain vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, B12 and vitamin E.
Mature fruits contain about 11 mg of iron per 100 grams, beta-sisterol (an anti-inflammatory agent), linoleic acid (a fatty acid), sesquiterpenoids (cyperone, solavetivone), tetraterpenoids (zeaxanthin, physalin), and betaine (0.1%).
Goji berries contain 4 types of polysaccharides which fortify the immune system. One polysaccharide found in this fruit has been found to be a powerful secretagogue (a substance that stimulates the secretion of rejuvenate human growth hormone by the pituitary gland).
Here is something I have not seen in any whole food product :
Contains glyconutrients also known as bio active polisacharides not found in any other food on the Planet.
Those polisacharides act as a master molecules directing body to heal on a cellular level.
Now that's a huge statement and I am sure we won't be seeing goji advertised on the national TV because it will not be endorsed by the drug companies.
Personaly I prefer goji to swallowing pills. We all have preferences and find the product that works the best for us.
