I'm 31 and hubby is 35 we've been married for 5 years now and are thinking about starting our family. Neither of us have kids it's both of our's first marriage and we're wanting to take all the precaution's.
I was wondering if any of you mom's out there had the Genetic test done before you became pregnant?I'm 31 and hubby is 35 we're wanting to taking all the precaution we can. Genetic testing An assessment of any possible genetic disorders as several genetic disorders may be inherited, including sickle cell anemia (a serious blood disorder that primarily occurs in African Americans) or Tay-Sachs disease (a nerve breakdown disorder marked by progressive mental and physical retardation that primarily occurs in individuals of Eastern European Jewish origin). Some genetic disorders can be detected by blood tests before pregnancy) or had had any other type of test done. And Is this that important. I'm 31 and hubby is 35 just taking all the precaution. Thanks for your help!

I think that unless you have family history that indicates there may be a problem, there isnt a real need. I had my first son when I was 32, and my last when I was 37. I didnt have any tests other than to check my health. I know its scary but you have to keep a positive spin on things. Because I am now 46 with three young boys, I try to watch my diet and exercise. 1. So they cant outrun me! And 2. So I do my part to insure that I stay healthy for them.
If you do your part to be healthy in your pregnancy, you just need faith for the rest. But you should also talk to your doctor before you become pregnant and consider that advice.
