I don't have actual recurring dreams, but rather what I call recurring themes.
One of the recurring themes that's been present lately in my dreams is about me moving into an apartment. In real life, I live in a house with my boyfriend of 13 years, and assume that my apartment-renting days are over. However, I also assumed this four years ago when my boyfriend and I broke up for a while, at which time I ended up living in an apartment.
Anyway, what is always the same in these dreams is that the apartment is really gross -- very outdated looking in terms of wallpaper and carpeting; the cabinets are beaten up; it feels and smells dirty. (This could be because I lived in a couple of apartments like that back when I was in college!) But anyway, I don't like them, and don't feel happy in the dream about moving into them.
At least once that I can remember, I had one of these moving dreams where I was looking at a new apartment. But in that dream, it was difficult to get in the front door, and I was worried about how I was going to get my stuff inside. I was also worried about actually getting approved to move into it for some reason.
I'd love to have some ideas about what this is supposed to mean!

Hi JewelChick! The one bit that stood out for me was the difficulty opening the door of the new apartment. I wonder whether this symbolises blocks or obstacles in new projects? Where we live also represents our security, so maybe when you have these dreams you are feeling a little vulnerable, as the apartments aren't somewhere you'd like to be?

Here's my amatuer psychoanalyst theory, but it hit me right away, so these tend to actually make sense sometimes...
The dirty apartments that are sometimes hard to get into make me think of memories that you are maybe unwilling conciously to look at. (In my case, it was a rape in my past.) In yours it could be certain issues in your relationship with your boyfriend, a trauma in your past - anything that you are not really willing to deal with on a concious level.
Part of your subconsious is trying to bring it up to you in a dream, but part of you is still afrai to face it (whatever is it) hence the difficulty getting in the door.
Can you think of anything you might be in denial about? (What a simple question to ask, but a nightmare to answer!)

Hi JewelChick... here's my 2 cent's worth... I would guess that from what you've mentioned here that an apartment= singledom or you on your own. I'd agree with Michelle then that the state of the apartment might be a metaphor for what is going on with you, inside you... eg. worry that you won't be approved, feeling outdated, unattractive (who would choose this place/you like this?) even perhaps too encumbered with old junk to allow your current/real self room. Perhaps you can try to dream about cleaning up that apartment, or decorating it with some tlc?
Be kinder than you need to be. Everyone is dealing with something.
