BellaOnline Forums Hobbies and Crafts Crochet pattern-multiple of 4 plus 3

The pattern is "How to do the Crazy Shell aka Brick stitch from www.crochet.about.com To make a sample swatch I chained 24 plus the 3 extra= 27 chains but when I come to the end of the chain there are five crazy shells and 3 extra chains.
What am I doing wrong? I volunteer teach at a small group of retired people. This lady wants to make a 36 X 36 blanket for Project Linus. Her gauge is one shell measures one inch.

Hi Marie :love: , I tried it and came up with the same thing you did so here is how to fix it, just base it on the 4...meaning if you wanted 6 shells you would do the math 6 x 4 = 24 now add 4 more for the beginning chain 24 + 4 = 28 and that works out good. Does that help you ?
