Yesterday I decided there was such a thing as too much love from a bird ...

In my living room I have a bay window with seat converted to a bird playground complete with fountain, tree, toys, perches etc. My birds get to frolick all day long cage-free. One of my birds is a juvenile Greenwing Macaw, Amador, who still regurgitates with regularity to show his affection.

Well ... I laid down for a quick nap on the sofa since everyone was playing nicely. I figured 15 minutes or so wouldn't hurt (it was Saturday, afterall). I must have dozed a little harder than I planned because I was woken up with a beak firmly clasped to my lips as my adoring Macaw showed affection in his usual way -- although he finally managed to spew it where nature intended for a bird - not a human (my open snoring mouth).

As I jumped up and ran screaming to the bathroom to get rid of his love offering my husband ran behind (thinking I was bleeding given the amount of shrieking I was doing). He laughed so hard when he found out what happened I thought he was going to wet his pants.

Needless to say I won't be snoozing on the couch again with the birds roaming freely....

While horribly embarrassing I thought it might give someone a good laugh for the day

Thanks for telling us the story.

Does anyone else have a funny or embarassing story about your and your birds to tell?

Thought I'd update you on the regurgitation king ...

He finally figured out that he could show love in other ways. I have a little zen garden (sand, chimes, smooth stones) near their play area. Every morning he goes and selects a smooth stone and "presents" it to me. In the afternoon he sometimes forgets himself and starts the shake (you know the one) and I'll tell him "mommy really doesn't want that". He'll hop over to the garden and pull out another stone and bring it to me.

I haven't a clue how he thought it up because I never played with him in the zen garden, but he's definitely using it as a substitute to show his affection (thank goodness!!).

Have you ever heard or experienced anything like this?

I asked my friend and he said his african grey would take one of those tiny bells and give them to someone that takes care of him a lot.

I changed up my routine a bit and started taking showers midday. Well, Helios, my constant companion (Sun Conure) has obviously been watching my every move. Today he decided that since I brush my "beak" he needed to brush his. He managed to nab a bit of paste from my brush before I started using it, flew to my shoulder and proceeded to grind his beak. (Before anyone freaks out, I only use all-natural soaps/pastes/etc so I knew it wouldn't hurt him). I kept going on about my business although it was difficult not to laugh or gawk in shock.

They never cease to amaze me.

Now if only I could get him and Neptune (Nanday Conure) to stop preening my hair after my shower when I'm trying to run a brush through it....
