I recently had 2 back to back surgerys, and was under anestheia for a total of about 4 hrs, and was also on extremely strong IV antibiotics for 5 days then on oral antibiotics for 7 days. I could not do a thing with my hair after this, and decided to cut it off in a very short style, because it felt like it was coated with crud, and no amount of shampooing, conditioning would make it feel better. My stylist told me that anestheia clngs to the hair immediatly, as it is dispersed thru sweat and scalp oils. I want to highlight my hair as the short cut took all the previous highlights out. She said I need to wait a couple of months before coloring or highlighting as it may not take or color correctly. Any one have any experience or advise ?? <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Anesthesia does affect the hair. I would use a treatment such as Malibu 2000 to remove any build up on your hair. There are other treatments but Malibu comes to mind. You can color your hair immediately after that.

THanks for the tip. Can I get this in a store or thru a salon, and what does it do? Is it a clarifying product??, Do you know if HRT affects the hair.

Could I further suggest you go to a health store and get yourself a supply of a supplement called Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum)?

Anaesthetic drugs can remain stored in the liver for over two years, and this supplement is extremely effective at detoxifying the liver and cleansing the system....
remember that it's a food supplement, not a drug, so it needs time to be absorbed by the system, and to start functioning effectively (at least two weeks)....

And drink at least two litres of water per day.....

This flushes the kidneys, which also help to rid the body of foreign and harmful infiltrators....!

As far as I know, there should be no adverse effects, but to be sure, ask a herbalist, or even the manager of the store...thezy should have a rudimentary knowledge base of their products...
I took Milk Thistle when I needed HRT..... and there was no problem....

You could also ask about herbal alternatives to anti-depressants.... Vitex Agnus castus is very good, as is sage tea....

But please don't just take my word for it...

This site is very good for herbal supplement information....

They are also very good and very quick to answer any queries you might have.

The Malibu treatment is a salon product. Yes it is a clarifying treatment. Clarifying shampoos help but the treatment does a much better job.

With the other drugs you have been taking, it is even more important to use the treatment to get them off your hair.
