One of my favorite patterns are the scarp afghans that are made from corner to corner. That way I can use all my scraps. I try, now remember I said I try, to keep one going at all times so that I don't have all the little yarn bits laying around.

My favorite pattern. I love to make hats and mittens. I use Bevs country cottage mittens alot and her hat patterns as well. I have made alot of rectangle granny spreads, because I just love to make them. When the kids were small every time their room colors changed they got one.

My favorite is a baby-ghan from a Leasure Arts booklet. It's done in baby-blue, white and lavender. Worked 1 color, 2 rows back and forth along the width of the ghan; repeating white, blue, white, purple, white, blue, and so on. It's done with single crochet and chain stitch (and a half double as you end the second row with the color before finishing off to start the first row of the next color). Makes a nice, lacy baby-ghan. I'm also the pattern to make a queen-size coverlet for my bed in light sage and off-white.

Other than that, my favorite pattern is a hat that Dd got from her grandma, worked in rounds, like a winter-style cloche. I've made up several that I'd like to donate to the local woman's shelter should I ever find the information for donating.

I can just picture the baby-gan, so pretty. Bev has charity links to check out on her main page http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/ Also if you make hats for charity. Mine sometimes are donated to my 19 year old daughter on her way out the door to college. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Heres a link I love that encourages donation: http://hometown.aol/QAmazon/patts.html

Yeah, I've got the Bev's country cottage site bookmarked. I like some of the kid's hats I've seen there (and have printed a couple of the patterns off for use), but I didn't really care for most of the women's hats. It is a great link, though, thanks!!!

Where can I find the pattern for the side to side afghan that you are using for scraps? I have so many scraps of favorite colors and your way of using them up sounds so good. Do you continue to crochet until the yarn is used up and just add another color?

Hi Marie, I do not know if there is a written pattern for this, someone showed this to me when I was learning. I just add the next color when I run out of yarn, I am sure you could make it neater if you wanted to but I am one of those people that just CAN'T throw out any yarn, here it is:
Use any size hook
To Begin, ch 2, in 2nd chain from hook do sc, hdc, sc. Ch 1 turn.
2nd row: sc, hdc in 1st sc, sc in next hdc, and in last sc do hdc, sc.ch 1 turn at end of every row.
Basically you increase on each end by putting a sc and a hdc in the 1st and last stitch and when working across every sc on previous row gets a hdc, and every hdc on prvious row gets a sc. Keep going until it is the width you want (it will be a triangle shape) now start to decrease: pull up a loop in 1st 2 stitches, yo pull thru all loops on hook, decrease made. Work in pattern across to last 2 stitches, pull up a loop in next stitch, pull up a loop in last stitch, yo pull thru all loops, decrease made in other end. Continue to decrease 1 on each end of row until you have 3 stitches left, pull up a loop in each of the 3 stitches, you pull thru all three, end off, crochet around outside.
You can make this as big or little as you want it.

Thanks for the information. I feel the same way about using up leftover yarn. In our small but very nice house we don't have much storage space. Now this is a very colorful way to use up this yarn. Every one will be different.

I usually have one going all the time but have gotten lazy since we moved into this house. But I am going to get out my scraps (notice I spelled it right this time, hehehehe) and get going on one. Some of them turn out really nice and I have donated mine. Last donation was to the womens shelter but I am sure anyone will be glad to get them.
