Oh, gosh...I agree with Patty...God help us all if "Boogeyman" is an extension of the real guy...
I first saw Rico on American Gladiators, and Ice and I had some fun chats on her name and the bodybuilder who used the name on "Gladiators" (Lori Fetrick, I the Fountain of (Mis-?) Useless Information (kudos to the late Gorilla Monsoon for permanantly putting that phrase in my head!)
As far as indy guys, it depends...some guys are really cool (Shawn Daivari, Ken Anderson (Kennedy), Punk, etc), and some are real jerks. It has to do with what their personality is in real life. Some guys just happen to be a-holes AND wrestlers at the same time. They're cast as heels because it's easier to be a prick since that's who they are anyhow.
I've met a lot of ex-WCW, ECW, and WWF guys, too, and many of them are real cool. Got a lot of phone numbers from guys just for shooting the breeze, treating them with respect, and sharing ideas with them. One of the fisrt guys I ever met was Road Warrior Hawk. Met him at an autograph signing in 96, then later, bumped into him again at an indy show in 02, and we exchanged phone numbers and talked a lot. Naturally, it hit me hard when he died. I also met Mr Perfect on the same show. Like I say, if a guy is a horse's [censored] in real life, it's easier to be that way as a character. However, sometimes, you just might catch these guys on a bad day or something, and not know it. It happens. My rule of thumb when meeting wrestlers (any wrestler, but especially a big name) is just be respectful and polite. Think of it as meeting your significant other's parents. Be respectful, but don't put them on a pedestal, either. I'm sure Patty will agree with that one.
With some of these guys (Goldust, etc), everyone heard the rumors about the breat implants, but other people claim he was just using it as a way to try to get out of his contract, and no one really seems to know beyond rumor with that. Vince McMahon is an enigma. Half the people I've met that know him think negative, others think he's great. Arn Anderson said McMahon gave him the biggest compliment he ever receieved when he and Tully went to work for him in the late 80's, and of course, Regal is happy that Vince helped him clean up his act when he had drug problems. I heard a hilarious story from a wrestler who told me once at a convention that he interviewed with his friend (there also for an interview), and Vince wore these "pink f***ing tights", which was hysterical!
Hogan just has no ability to act other than as "Hulk Hogan", and his TV show is GREAT if you have insomnia! He really has zip for personality or presence outside the ring.
Finally, to agree with Se7en, I agree, it's may be these guys career, but ultimately, it's their JOB, and they don't get paid to be "King of Kings" while mowing the lawn, cleaning the litterbox, walking the dog and taking out the trash.
