Today, May 5th, marks my 2 year anniversary of being away from my abuser. 2 years ago, I filed a restraining order and he was removed from my home. 2 years ago, I slept for the first time peaceful because he was in jail and not laying in the other room where I could feel his hate coming through the wall. 2 years ago, my children felt comfortable enough in their own home to sleep in their own beds all night long for the first time in months. 2 years ago, I stopped holding my breath and breathed deeply for the first time in 5 years.

I just celebrated my first and gawd it feels good. I too can sleep nights and not feel his hate. The children can invite friends to my home and not be afraid that their dad is going to come home drunk and embarrass them. Even the dog doesnt have to hide from the ex's mean behaviors anymore. It is truly wonderful now even though I am still restructuring my life to some extent. We have to give up so much when we are on our own with the children. But it is soooooooooo worth it! Monica

Monica I agree with you. I struggled for the first few months after he was put out of my house. But just being able to sleep...i mean deep, restful sleep was so dangon amazing! The simple little things I took for granted before I was with him I could enjoy again. Like taking a bath without him busting in asking why I was taking so long, fixing dinner and doing the dishes on my time not on his demand. And to be able to spend time with my kids without him getting jealous and saying i was doing too much with them or spoiling them with attention was the best feeling of all I think.
