I am getting ready to crochet a few hats, some fingerless gloves and a few sweaters for my little one. He starts First Grade and will have to be at school all day. We do get snow here so he will need a few warm things.

You know that very very long scarves are going to be in style this year. I usually look at the fashion magazines (glamour, harpers bazaar etc.) to see what they are showing to get an idea of whats hot and whats not. I also keep a sort of crochet scrapbook.....I tear things out of the fashion magazines (crocheted things of course).

<img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> How do you determine the different sizes of thread crochet? I always make the mistake of ordering the kind that is like thread. I am going to start on an afghan does anybody know of an easy one without holes in it it is to cold in Colorado for a holey afghan.

I haven't even thought of winter yet, but you brought back a very sweet memory for me. I had to stay in my son's first grade classroom as an unofficial aide for him. He has severe adhd and had trouble (still does) in staying on task. He didn't need my attention full time, so when I wasn't needed I'd pull out my crochet and work on it in the classroom. The children were fascinated. One little boy asked for a pair of mittens as I was working on a pair for my son. I told him I'd think about it, but if I made a pair for him, I'd have to make a pair for the other 19 children in the class. That's what I ended up doing. It was a joy seeing the children line up and choose which pair they wanted! That winter I ended up making over 90 pairs of mittens for the school. Now I really need to think of what I need to make for Joe, who is going into the fourth grade - after all last years items will not "go" with this year's jacket!

Hi Dealsp, I would like to suggest Worsted Weight yarn. If you have a walmart near you they sell RedHeart worsted weight yarn that is perfect for afghans. While you are there check out there crochet book selection for a pattern or check out the links I have listed on the main page Bellaonline Crochet

Hi Karen K. that is a nice memory. A couple of years ago I saw an article in either Woman Day or Family Circle and the local ladies made slipplers for all the elementary kids to wear when they had testing weeks. That is kinda a neat thing.
