BellaOnline Forums Hobbies and Crafts Crochet Crochet books/magazines gettin scarce?

Is it just me or are we seeing less and less of crochet books and magazines ? We do not live in the city anymore and when we do go shopping to both Borders and Barnes & noble, I don't see crochet books AT ALL. The only ones I see are Magic Crochet, Decorative Crochet, & Crochet Fantasy. Are all the crochet magazines going to a subscription basis only ? Or am I just living in a non crochet area ?

I live in Phoenix AZ. I don't go to book stores......toooooooo tempting as I'm a bookaholic. But, the magazines you mentioned are the only ones I see on a regular basis in the grocery store or Wal-Mart. If I'm really lucky, I might find Crochet World. So, I don't think you're alone.

I know this is an older topic, but I started at the beginning, and am working my way forward. So, if you're not supposed to reply to old topics, just chalk it up to my "newbie-ness"

This must be a trend; I find it very interesting that over a year ago when this question was first asked, you found as many mags as you did. When I got started crocheting in May 2005, and started looking around, crochet magazines seem to be scarcer than hen's teeth. I'm here in the suburbs of the DC metro area, and you'd think we'd have a good selection of whatever is being published. I've checked Michaels, ACMoore, WalMart - I've found maybe one mag title (sometimes only one copy) at each store. And now it seems that Magic Crochet and Decorative Crochet are no longer being published? And Crochet Fantasy just got started again (I think their first issue after the ownership change was Spring 2005- they'ev gone to 4x a year). Knitting mags on the other hand are a little more plentiful. At the same time, though, there are tons of pattern books. What's up with this, do you think?

I have been wondering that myself. I can't remember where I say this statistic but for every 1 knitter there are 3 crocheters. Hey maybe we are just so crafty that we design our own stuff and don't really need a magazine......NAAAAAHHHH but it was a good thought, hehehe

I run across crochet books in yard sales alot. Most of them are older books. I find yarn and hooks also. Usually several bundles of the same color and has not been used. I bought 5 bundles and a hook for $2 recently.

I have trouble in my area finding stuff. Like the most recent Interweave Crochet. It was several weeks after its release that I finally find it at our local walmart, and at Bookland. The most recent Family Circle Crochet mag that has been out since August, still hasn't hit the stores here in my area. A lot of times, I just give up waiting and order what ever I want off the net. The nearest Hobby Lobby is 40 miles away. it gets agravating at times.

I live on long island in NY and I don't really find too many crochet mags alot. On the other hand, I find tons of pattern books and books about crochet that are very useful, mostly at Joan's.

My sentiments exactly, I've been crocheting for several yrs now, & yes those are the only mags on subject. I joined crafterschoice.com & I can honestly say that thy have a great selection of every craft including many title on our favorite"Crochet"
Plan to oreder at least 2, one on Hats & Scarfes & the other on squares.

We have a Books A Million here and they have about 5 magazines that they carry. I joined Crafter Choice too, Gordita, and I love it as well. They are a good club to work with and if you have a problem they take care of it right away.
Dover books on line is another good site that carries crochet books and they have great sales. Their crochet books are sometimes vintage style but I like them a lot.
