Hi Freespirit, Good for you!!!!! I hope that sales woman works on commission and realizes, not only how cruel she was, but also how much money she lost by being so rude to a customer.
Congrats on the 96 pounds and gook luck with the few you still want to lose. How has your health changed with the weight loss?

A thin co-worker proudly presented me with a coupon for a weight loss program she'd cut out of the paper and said "I saw this and thought you could use it".

I was having lunch and an elderly female stranger came and smacked my knee several times and said "stop eating you're already too fat".

I'd like to understand what makes people feel they have the right to make these comments.

That's just as rude in my opinion.

Nobody has the right to make comments and you should tell them all where to go....

[color:"blue"] Moe, is this the quote you were referring to when you said it was "just as rude"? If so, I agree but what options do we offer people when the are rudely addressed? [/color]

Oops. No, that wasn't the one. I was referring to "you would not believe the amount of people who come up to me and say stop you have lost to much weight...These are the same ones who used to make nasty comments when I was big.You just cant win."

If a person is embarrassed they are less likely to repeat it. i.e. I was once asked by a neighbour "When are you due?" I looked at her and said "I'm not pregnant, just fat." She turned fifty sheets of red. I can guarantee she'll never ask another person the same thing.

People need to be educated when they are being rude. It's like any other kind of manners we learn growing up. They just weren't taught. A simple look, eye roll or plain stating "That's rude" works. Also pointing out an "inadequacy" of their own, "How would you like it if I said...???" you pick.

Sorry for not clarifying earlier.

What do you mean I have an eating problem? I dont understand where you are comming from. What did I say to make you think that.

Freespirit, I don't think Meg was saying that to you. I think she was posting that as something rude said to her, hence the quotation marks! <img src="/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />
