Hi

I wondered if anyone can give me some advice on how to contol my thyroid. Until 6 months ago I was taking 0.3 mcg (300mgs) of synthroid. I am now taking .275 synthroid and 60 mg of armor thyroid. Does anyone else have experience of how to get this amount down, without my numbers changing. I have started an iodine regimine, but my dr thinks I still need more T4, it tends to be the free amounts that are the problem not the tsh. When we lowered the amount of synthroid my thyroid test results were insane. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

look at your diet as this can effect your thyroid

rice, sweetcorn, onions, eggs, leeks to name but a few all contain iodine
also any medicines, creams (antiseptic), mouthwashes, bandages, dressings can all effect your levels

try and get a book or look on web for relavent information
you may be able to manage your thyroid better through your diet

i had graves disease and was treated with radioiodine therapy i now just keep an eye on my diet as i was underactive for a while the medication i was put on made me overactive and it was the smallest dose so i stopped my medication and balanced it out with my diet

There are a number of questions that could be asked m-- however, it is possible that is the amount you need:
1) Are you taking your meds in the early morning & then waiting at least an hour before your 1st meal?
2) Do you eat soy, nuts & raw veggies? (too much opposes thyroid hormones)
3) Do you take pills that oppose thyroid hormone. Estrogen can oppose thyroid hormone.

How do you feel? If you are feeling well, and have been able to reduce your symptoms, I'm not certain that you need to reduce your meds.

Losing weight can allow you to reduce your meds -- but, do you need to lose weight.

There are some if's and' & but's here --

The first priority is feeling well -- and if you feel well on this regimen -- I wouldn't rush to reduce the meds.

You are not "a little bit hypo".

Start increasing the Armour, and decreasing the $ynthoid. If you stay on it long enough $ynthoid will kill you.
