I have noticed that I call food different names from other people. So what food do you call by a different name than other people?

I am at the beach this week and everyone is saying hushpuppies. I call them doughboys.

Is it coke, soda water, or soft drink?? We usually say coke to refer to any dark carbonated non-alcoholic beverage, whether it be Coca-cola, Pepsi, Dr Pepper, etc.

My daughter was at a friend's house and his mom asked her if she wanted a soda water. She was clueless. She settled for plain tap water because at least she knew what it was...we really laughed over that one.

Black Eyed Peas = Cow Peas (my mom's from northern California and still can't understand why anyone in their right mind would eat food grown for cattle)

Garbanzo Beans = Chick Peas

Margerine = Oleo (maybe Oleo was the first margerine brand)

Spaghetti sauce = gravy (my husband's mother is Italian-American and they refer to it as "gravy"--that one took me a while)

We got into it the other night about Lima beans. They were calling them butter beans. I finally got the bag of dried lima beans out and said "This is what you are eating. It says Lima beans." I guess I will have to take a picture of butter beans when we hull them this summer straight out of the field.

Go north and ask for chicken fried steak...see what you get and it won't be steak...

Years ago, I lived in Massachusetts<sp?>. I went out to a resturant that served all kinds of ice cream things, so I asked for a chocolate soda. - To me that is icecream, chocolate, soda water and whipped cream on top. - I got soda water with chocolate syrup in it. - Ick!

Yeah, I lived Rhode Island for a while and they are strange critters (love 'em).
1) A chocolate milkshake - they ask how many scoops. If you think like I do that a scoop would be an extra scoop of ice cream in the shake, don't say "none"-- all you get is chocolate milk!
2) Some places called a milkshake a "cabinet". Don't know why but it sure is strange to see a "coffee cabinet" on a menu!
3) Not a strange name but they make their coleslaw with marshmallow fluff!

Okay, coleslaw with fluff is as bad as grits with sugar. Somethings should not be sweet.

Subs, grinders, hoagies...those are all the same thing, right? We call them subs where I come from in Ohio.
