Ok, maybe I'm not paying enough attention to my tension? I'm hoping someone can help because I haven't been able to figure what I'm doing wrong. I have a 2nd hand Joy wheel & have been trying to do my thing with some wool and other mixed fibers. Once I start on the treadle and get a couple of feet or so on the bobbin, it comes unscrewed and falls out. I've tried adjusting the tension tighter and looser, oiling it & nothing helps. Its very frustrating, I'd like to go more than 20-30 seconds without stopping. Any suggestions? Yup, I'm new at this. Thanks.

I dont have a joy - is this a real screw action? It might be that the treads are stripped. Plumbers tape (its just very thin teflon- not sticky) wrapped around the threads might help.
Is there a part missing? Somthing that holds the bobbin on?

The screw isn't stripped, it still screws in the correct way. Nothing is missing as far as I know. Sometimes I get lucky and I'm able to do a bobbins worth of yarn. I think it depends on what I'm spinning. Guess its just a live and learn, trial and error type of situation. Maybe I need to play around some more. I know about plumber's tape but I don't know if that would be the best way to solve this problem. Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it

I've never spun on a Joy and I'm not familiar with how they work. Have you e-mail the company with this issue? You can contact them directly at: helpline@ashford.co.nz What you are describing should not be happening and I'm sure they can tell you why.

I have a new Joy that I dearly love and it will do this once in awhile depending on the fiber I'm spinning. I've had good luck with just screwing it back on a little tighter---a little extra ump at the end. I hope this won't be a problem when it gets older. I'm going to ask the store where I bought it when I go up there.

Thanks, let me know what you find out, I'd appreciate it.
I was going to take a local spinning class but realized I've already missed the 1st 2 classes-time has just flown by!

hi, I have the same problem on my wheel - an older home made one, which is a beautiful spinner, except sometimes I can't keep the screw done up. As I have only used this wheel during our hot Australian summer, I am wondering if there is a bit of grease on the screw that loosens it when the weather is warmer. I have to give the wheel a thorough clean and replace the drive band, so that will be one of the things I check as well. Cheers, from a cold South Australia that is giving a very good impersonation of winter!
