Gee, I hope none of mine get ideas like that! [I guess they know I'm broke! [grin!]
Someone told me I should control them, but how do you do that?

I studied psychology in college, and found myself extremely fascinated by DID...I even wrote a term paper on it. I just wanted to chime in and say that I think it's terrible when people don't believe or feel the need to speak out against these disorders. There are definitely support groups out there (and you've found one right here) so you are doing the right thing speaking out and trying to get some emotional support...
Hang in there...

Is there a difference between Dissociative Identity Disorder and Multiple Personality Disorder? Does anyone know?

Wonderwomen13 i would be interested in reading the paper you wrote if you still have it.
Patience - Control if only it was so easy. I think the people that tell us these kind of things don't have any clue about what we are dealing with - Don't any any idea what it really is to be a multile.

I'm 33 and am DID. I made a deal with my strongest alter and she just hangs out in the background. The deal was that I wouldn't kill her with medications if she stopped ruining my life and marriage. She doesn't want to die so she has been very good. Now I just have to deal with "chatter" all the time. She goes by the name Dark Little Angel and got a tattoo with DLA in it, so I changed the meaning to Deity's Little Angel...I like it now. I also have a small child alter that doesn't talk and is always frightened. she used to come out with bad dreams or loud noises. But she hasn't come out in almost 6 months.

patience, Fairykat, bluebutterfly, & DeitysLittleAngel,
Hi! My name is Rose and this is my first post on here. I'm 56 and have dealt with DID all my life. I used to be afraid of it but I have been reading about it on and off for years and now understand enough to not be afraid of it.
Would love to hear more about how you cope and look forward to sharing some of my own stories.
Rose

My therapist thinks I have 'created' another to cope with the trauma, as I am not physically well. Do any of you have any ideas about this? Patience, I'm not a therapist (but I surely spend enough time around them!) but I would imagine that {maybe} DID is a little like cancer, and you can have relapses. You've suffered through a terrible loss, so have relapsed back into needing that "comfort" of another personality again. It's just my opinion, but I think if this persona had been around before, it would have been discovered.

Hello All, Im not sure where to begin here. I am a 23 year old male from Brooklyn NY. I know this is a fairly female oriented board, and am dearly sorry to impose on you all. I have for about a year and a half been interesting in possibly putting together a documentary on the subject of DID. My goal is to meet people who have this disorder, and meet with therapists who have dealt with it, and with those who have not and compare the differences. I would like to bring this subject to light. I feel it goes highly unnoticed, and people don't take it seriously. Being someone who suffers from depression, and someone who suffered four nervous breakdowns in one year...i know what its like to have people not take what you tell them seriously. Any kind of help you ladies can offer would be greatly appreciated and will be credited to the final cut of the documentary. Thank you for your time, i look forward to speaking with some of you. Again sorry to impose.

Hi Kev!
You are not imposing by coming onto this board at all! We like men, they make life interesting, LOL! We even have several male editors.
As to whether anyone wishes to speak up about their personal experience, though - I guess you'll have to wait and see.
