I'm having a party soon. I wanted to cook and be elaborate, but I didn't end up feeling like it. So I have the standards on the menu. Chips and dip, stuffed mushrooms, veggies and dip... Do you guys have any ideas that require little to know cooking that you tend to use? I am also making a macho nacho thing with layers of cheese, pepper, onions, and olives.

Easiest dessert idea that everyone goes nuts over is fondue.
Chocolate chips (to me the darker the better) - cream, and a teaspoon of your favorite liquer (if you like , but not necessary)
then a bunch of fresh fruit (strawberries, pineapple, bannannas, etc) large marshmallows, chunks of pound cake or angel food cake, chunks of brownies, and if you like serve ice cream alongside as well, and people can make sundaes - when I made homemade ice cream one time, all our friends when nuts, and skipped all the rest of the foor! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

That is an excellent idea!
I've noticed that I can't predict what my guests are going to like. Yesterday was our party, and some of the things that I usually serve ended up going to waste. Next time, I will probably try this idea or something similar.

This is one of my favorites.
Mix together:
8 oz. softened cream cheese (reduced fat ok) 1 pkg. dried beef, chopped 1 tbls. horseradish small jar, olives w/ pimeinto, chopped
Shape into a log or ball and chill. Serve with crackers.

I love party food! I never want to have a 'messy' party, and although there's always plenty of alcohol, I make enough food that everyone can get properly full.
For a normal party I buy in chips/vegies and a range of dips, and make some club sandwiches. I also buy sausage rolls, savouries and mini quiches from the supermarket and heat them up at home. For sweet foods I tend to buy a few packets of party mix from the supermarket and leave them in bowls around the room/s.
When I have a more posh party I buy fancier crisps, make my own dips, use nicer bread and fillings in the sandwiches, drop the sausage rolls, savouries and mini quiches, but heat up wontons or spring rolls, and make sure there's a dipping sauce. I like to include a platter of cheese, crackers, and some dried fruits and nuts.
I love parties!
