My budgie keeps throwing her food from the cage. Why and what can I do about it.

Hi, I'm not a budgie owner, but have had cockatiels and currently have a sweet loving canary. All birds throw food, I think. I am always vacuuming up seed hulls around the cage. Possibly he is throwing out food he doesn't like; they can go through the dish and flip out stuff so fast. If he seems to be eating okay, my only suggestion is to just grin and bear it and clean. I'll put up with a bird's mess any day.

I know this is a little late. All of my budgies have tossed food out of their cages, especially when I give them sprays of millet, there are seed hulls everywhere and when I give them their brown rice and veggies, there's rice pieces on the table their cages sit on. I agree with farmgirl. I think it's normal. They remove the food they don't want or the hulls to get to the rest of the food. I use a mini brush and dustpan set and sweep up the table and vaccuum the floor. They also have seed guards to put around the cage but in my opinion they are a waste of money. Cleaning is a big job but I wouldn't have it any other way. I had Plucky and Snowball for 10 years before they died, and Perky is such a doll!
