I lost one of my beloved kitties on Friday, March 17th to liver failure. He would have been two on April 4th, and this has been a pretty bitter pill for my husband and I to swallow. We knew he hadn't been feeling well, and when it dawned on us he wasn't eating (we have three other cats and two dogs), we took him to the vet. I never thought to check his gums and the inside of his ears..but when I saw him Friday his gums were as yellow as the yellow used on the icons on this forum. I was heartbroken and felt like such a failure as a mommy. Please, everyone, check your kitties periodically. Don't let liver disease take your precious kitty away from you. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Kathi,
I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your kitty.
Please don't feel like you weren't a good parent to him. Sometimes it's difficult to know what is going on with our pets- they're very good at hiding illnesses.
Four years ago I almost lost my cat to the same thing. After a while I realized she wasn't eating, but I thought she was just getting tired of the food I was feeding her.
I hope all cat owners follow your advice.

Take care,
Jody

Hello Katti,

Lemoncat is right. I have lost 2 cats to old age and I know have 3 cats in my household. We don't know if something will happen to our animals. We pray that they live a long and healthy life. But sometimes our little precious ones are taken ahead of time.

Don't think that you could have done something different. You had those wonderful two years with him. We have to find reasons why and there are none.

I know how you must feel. My heart goes out to you.

Thanks for all the kind words about Harvey. I still miss him, but his sister Sophie is doing a good job of filling his shoes. She has become a real lap-cat, which was his job, and she meets me in the bathroom every time I'm up in the middle of the night, just like he used to. I am healing by immersing myself in my scrapbooking project of all of the pets who have traveled through my life in the past 23 years. Seeing pictures of them has led to both tears and laughter and is a very enjoyable project.

Again, thanks for all the kind words. Will keep you posted on any new arrivals at our house!
