I hope someone can give me a simple, non-confusing pattern for a diagonal crocheted afghan. Most of what I've found on the "net" involve the box stitch, which I find horribly confusing, even after about 15 attempts! Lion Brand yarn has one that uses single crochet stitches, but their instructions about when to increase and by how many were very confusing, too. I would love to do a striped afghan on the diagonal, but my first two stabs at it wound up nearly putting me in the state mental hospital!

Why not let us "unconfuse" you about the box stitch? it's really quite simple once you get the pattern down.

Thanks for your help. The pattern you directed me to is the one I tried, and got hung up on Rows 6 & 7, where it says to repeat row 5 - 11 sts. Row 5 only had 7 stitches, so I am assuming (and we all know how dangerous that is!) that row 6 would have 9 and row 7 would have 11, but it didn't look right. So I unraveled it out and went with a different pattern. I'll give it another "go" when I get the current project done.

Is this also called 'pig ear' stitch? Looks like what my neighbor's afghan looked like but that is what she called it. Just wondering.

Thanks everyone for all your help and suggestions. When I get to my next afghan project I'll give this diagonal box stitch a try one more time - and if I still can't figure it out I will be sure to yell for your expert help. Again, thanks!
