And that's why I put up the link to the other article. I've got links to the site she and the Engima have there.

I have seen a show that had this couple in it. Maybe it was about side show performers. There was also a contortionist that could fit in a suitcase....he was unbelievable!

They are both one-of-a-kind, aren't they? I saw the Enigma perform a few times back when he was with the Jim Rose Circus Sideshow. And the very first time I saw them, he wasn't tattooed yet.....

In a lot of the cultures that did tattooing as puberty rites, if you didn't get the tattoos, you would never be viewed as an adult by your community and would not be allowed adult responsibilites and privileges. This could include marriage, being allowed to hunt, property ownership, having a valid vote/voice in the community, etc.

Public perception is so fascinating. Here in Australia there is a magazine advertisement I just love (although for the life of me I can't remember what or who it advertises!). It shows two photographs, one of a man's muscular arm with a stunning tattoo covering it, the other of the palm of a woman's hand with Indian henna tattooing covering it. The caption below the first photo says "Traditional" and below the second says "Modern". Then the photos are repeated but this time the captions are reversed: the man's tattoo is "Modern" and the woman's henna is "Traditional". And as you look at it you realise it's perfectly correct - in some cultures tatooing is traditional and in others it is "new" and shocking or exciting.

Rae, you are a famous tattooed woman in your own way. Do you plan on updating your screen image or "avitar"?

Well, this is a recent pic and it went up when Bellaonline changed forum software, so for now, this one is going to stay. It shows some of my best ink.
