I've only posted to the board game forums here a few times, but I get the feeling that most people here are fans of the more popular games, such as Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, and Scrabble. I just wanted to share my gaming interests, and that is Eurogames!
Eurogames, sometimes called designer games, are mainly games that are developed and made in Europe. There are many English game publishers, such as Rio Grande Games, out of the Box, Fantasy Flight, and Mayfair, that then translate these games into English.
In my opinion, a few of the advantages of designer games over traditional games are:
1) No player elimination! Players get to play the whole game, eliminating the boredom of being knocked out early.
2) Simple, clever rules. Many Eurogames have interesting rules that you may have never seen before in traditional American games.
3) Heavy player interaction! Players often trade, try to win auctions, or compete for resources, making each turn exciting for everyone!
4) Minimizes direct conflict. This makes designer games great to play with kids, as there is often little direct conflict between players, resulting in less hurt feelings!
5) They're attractive! Most designer games are published with beautiful components!
