I think that's true of any craft. The trick is to find stores or outlets out of your area, willing to sell your product. You could even offer a dropship type of sale (after they've seen your product, of course!)
I made some beautiful Christmas ornaments that sold for less than $3.50 each where I lived but sold for $12.95 each in California! They were packaged the same and everything else, but were "imported" from another state. Validates the old saying, "no one's a prophet in their own back yard."
