What are some of the things that you do to help you get balanced when you feel that things are sliding out of control? I have to stop and think of what to eliminate or get rid of. What works for you?

1.)Evaluate pro's and cons of different situations in my life. 2.)Write 3.)Get wrapped up in creative things (art, writing, house decorating, etc.) --this can often clear pathways in the mind so that you can look at things fresh and it brings a sense of calm when you feel a loss of control.

Hi Sandi,
I have to think of what needs to go too. There are so many things I love to do, sometimes it's hard to say goodbye to things I don't have time for.

For me, it's yoga. It can have an immediate improvement on my mood and outlook. Fortunately, our local cable channel keeps a steady flow of changing yoga classes ready on demand, so I can unroll my mat and zone out whenever I need to!

I've also had incredible success with yoga. Unfortunately, I hurt my back trying to do a headstand. My instructor offered to apply a magnetic roller message that left my lower back feeling like it had been bruised terribly.
A chiro said it was inflammation of a disc and that I could go back to yoga if I avoided headstands permanently. My internist was adamant about not doing yoga at all and switching to Pilates for other health reasons. Another internist said the same.
So I am considering Pilates, but really miss the yoga.

I also use meditation. I can't always stop & do it, (Sure the people in Target would understand me laying on the floor finding my "rhythum" & taking very loud deep breathes! While my children are having a "melt down") If I have to I suck in the deepest breathe I can & count to 10 blowing it out & imagining all the "[censored]" unsettled feeling/negativity going along w/ it! <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
I'm beginning to think this whole world is wild @ heart & wierd on top!

I take a quiet ride in my car. No radio, no books on tape just me. I talk and talk and talk. I have solved many of my own problems this way. I also always say everything I am grateful for. Somedays its for the beautiful sky or a sunset or just the new buds on trees. One very cold day I was grateful that I was on my way home to my warm house and my big bathrobe and that special corner of my couch.

I really believe in the value of meditation- read so many articles and talked to so many practitioners.
Unfortunately I just can't make myself stay focused on the meditation practice and get stressed about that.
I do better with breathing meditations than visual at times, but really haven't fond my groove with it.
Trying to find discipline to start a practice.

Trying to find discipline to start a practice. It takes lot of practice to stay focussed. don't give up. Continue and you will see the difference after some months. that will be amazing.

Trying to find discipline to start a practice. You know what's great though? That even if you can't get your mind totally clear, the meditation is still beneficial.
