Yup we have an entire site dedicated to container gardening!! She is busy adding in new articles on veggies, so be sure to let her know which you'd like help with. In essence, you can grow most any vegetable in a "pot". For example let's take cherry tomatoes. They grow on a little bush. So you plant a cherry tomato seed in a pot, put it by your window and water it. In a few weeks you have free, fresh, yummy cherry tomatoes by the boatloads!

HEY GUYS....LILY HERE FROM THE POLISH PAGE -
I'me in Daytona Beach area - presently have about 16 mixed tomatoe plants about four to five feet high each in containers.....planted them to "take a chance" we would'nt get cold weather - was doing fine till last week when we had the two nights of cold..........good news that I only lost a few leaves - plants are good and solid.........
which I could say the same for the bell peppers - in containers and they were so beautiful...........all the leaves sagged and turned brown - I clipped them ( don't know if I did the right thing though!) but the stalks are healthy - about two feet tall and look good........I hope leaves come back with new growth..........one bell pepper plant in the ground is beautiful so I have cuttings if I need these.
Lettuce and Arugula in containers outstanding and I use every day as I do about ten different herbs.........look great in containers..........love the peppermint and spearmint in tea..........
Brocooli are monsters right now and certainly love the cold - we are eating these every day - so good........
I got "beat up real bad" last summer in Florida with insects, hurricanes, heat, you name it - and so did my neighbors......second year in a row...........I'm giving up on summer gardening unless in containers........spring, winter, fall for me..................I think I will pass on big effort in summer..........
I LOVE CONTAINER GARDENING.........lily

So far I have eight varieties of tomatoes two kinds of eggplants, some okra and some artichokes started. They're all just about ready to go into some larger containers now so I can use the starter trays again. Most of the tomatoes will eventually end up in the actual garden, but I'm keeping one of each in containers just so I can see which varieties do best. I've never kept artichokes in containers, but I hear they do well that way, so I'm going try a couple of those too.
The next batch of seeds will be more interesting; ground cherries, huckleberries, vine peaches, wonder eggs and something called strawberry sticks. I've never grown the strawberry sticks but they're supposed to give you a strawberry like fruit and they say the leaves can be used like spinach. It should be interesting to see what happens.
Last year when we brought in our container tomatoes for the winter, we turned the grow lights on them. It must have been the right thing to do because we picked our last fresh tomatoes (Romas) on Christmas day. Our guests wouldn't have believed it if they hadn't seen it with their own eyes.
The weather has been so mild here (West Virginia) that the brussels sprouts we left on the patio are still sprouting (but they're only about the size of my little finger tip).
Good luck to everyone. It should be a really fun gardening season!
Have you tried prying open your third eye?

My garden is now all set and looking good! I have growing:
* 8 ball squash * summer squash * cucumbers * zucchini * yellow grape tomatoes * cherry tomatoes * beefsteak tomatoes
Plus a collection of herbs - * oregano * sage * tarragon * rosemary * parsley * chives * more sage
I have the oregano and sage right on the porch so that it's easy to grab when we need it. I tried to grow spinach but it all died when I was away. The tomatoes I started barely survived, so I had to buy some more plants to round them out.
I'll take some photos and post them soon! It really is SO cheap to grow your own veggies, it's well worth it. They taste much better than store bought varieties too.

I don't think our Johnny-jump-ups are out yet, and when I mentioned them to my boyfriend, he doesn't know what I'm talking about. Which is strange because he's been mowing them for at least 10 years now <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I'll have to ... oh wait I bet I do have pictures already ...
