I am one step closer to the tubal....(yay!)
I set an appt to meet with a dr (not my ob/gyn-no referral required by my insurance) about the tubal 3/16/06. My insurance (bcbs of nc) company does not require a waiting period or that you have children first-this is all per the benefits customer rep. They will also pay for 80% after I meet my deductible.
I called the dr's office to make sure they did not have a waiting period/"no tubal for women without children" exclusion. From what they say, they do not have these exclusions....so we shall see how it goes.

Essure is better than tubal. Go to www.essure.com for more info. No surgery and 3 day recovery!

Thank you all for the support. I will check into the essure as well. The dr's office my appt is with has other options outside of the tubal ligation (from what they say....)
At least I know I can post my desire to have my tubes tied here and not be judged. It is very refreshing and a much needed change from what I usually get.

Hey there, I am new to the board, I am so happy to find it, now I know I am not the only one who doesn't want to have kids. I have been really thinking about getting the tubal ligation done and just read about the essure procedure. It sounds great, thank you so much for the info.I can hardly wait to never take birth control pills again!

Sorry, but that essure sounds like a royal PITA. Why have something done, have to wait 3 months, and take the chance that it didn't completely block them off?

As for recovery time, there is very little with a tubal. I was back at work after three days. The anesthesia affected me more than the tiny little incisions. If I were to do it over again, I would've had a local instead.

I know I'm jumping in late to this thread, but I had my tubal done when I was 22 and I've had no regrets whatsoever. It took me a while to find the right guy, but now we are very happily child-free, and I can't imagine life any other way.

I let it slip that I was planning to get a tubal ligation this year before my job was divested (NC mental health reform cuts) since my insurance covers it for the single/childfree. Boy, it seems like everyone knows some woman that has had an ineffective tubal ligation and had a baby later down the road.
I find it amazing that all of these women have not gone to the media about all of these post-tubal ligation pregnancies/childbirth. Has anyone else heard these stories? I mean, this story is as prevalent as "insurance companies won't cover a tubal ligation for a single (or married) woman that doesn't have children."

DST - I think many of those stories come from when the surgery was done differently (thus the common "tubes tied" phrase) and there was a higher risk of failure. AFAIK, the way mine was done was to have them cut completely and cauterized so that regrowth was not possible.

With this technique, if it's done correctly, I can't see how pregnancy would be possible at all.

(Note - I could be wrong about how it's done nowadays....that was 15 years ago. )

I think sometimes they do still do the method where they just clip it off. You can bet that if I were having it done, I'd be telling them just to remove the fallopian tube, period, burn off the ends, and call it good.

Of course, it also seems like everyone knows some woman who had her period while pregnant (or, everyone IS that person). Yet supposedly it's really rare. I guess those are just the stories we hear.
