Hi,
I am new to the site but have just been browsing. I am actively trying to loose weight. I have about 50 pounds to shed. I cam acro a diet called the Sonoma Diet. Are ou familiar with that? I am very health conscious because my mom and great grandmother were diabetics. My mom died in November from diabetic complications. Because hers went untreated or diagnosed for years, she had kidney failure and had to go on dialysis. Anyway that is not something that I want to have to deal with.

June,
You are my first winner!! Please email me and I will give you a list of books to choose. I think I have the perfect book to help you on your weight loss!!
Congratulations.
However, the main thing I have learned about losing weight is nice and slow. Expect to lose the 50 pounds over this year. You want a 1/2 pound weight loss a week and not more. Just take it one day at a time and make small changes in your routine.
Hope to hear from you more often!
Welcome to the group

Diabetes runs on both sides of my family. We are trying to eat right to prevent as much as we can. I am always looking for ideas for family members that are diabetic and those of us that are trying to head it off for as long as we can. We were told Sugar Busters was good by our doctor. We just ordered the books, so I hope they help.

I am morbidly obese at 351 lbs and Insulin Dependent Type II. I take 120 Lantus every night. Only if I eat nothing but protein and keep the carbs under 20 grams can I get my blood sugars down to the 120's, but never lower. I'm getting a bit confused here and find it's so difficult to do this! My A1C is 8.4 and I cried when they told me that yesterday. I'm working so hard and getting so nowhere! I don't know what more I can do here.........I've picked up my lifestyle so I am spending more time doing housework and walking and breaking myself of the sedentary life.
