I am working on the family genealogy & one of my cousin's names, as far as I can remember, is pronounced like this:
Vee choo
I know that W in Polish is pronounced like V, but that's all I know. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I would guess that the first few letters are "Wicz" or "Wiecz." As for the "oo" sound, I'm not sure how that would be spelled. It might be as simple as Wiczu or Wieczu, but that doesn't quite look right to me.

Could someone have been refering to your cousin as "Uncle" - Wujek in Polish....My many cousins in Poland often call me a form of "uncle", wujku, which is pronounced like "vuykoo". Just a thought....
Good luck in your research.

But is it the first name or the family name? Because if it is the family name, then almost everything goes, but I'd say "Wiczuk" (Veechook) is quite propable.

And hello to everybody, I haven't shown up here for a long time but now I'm back, more or less <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

"Wicio" or "Wiciu" may be the diminuitive from Witold

... or from Wiktor.

It may also be Wiesiu - from Wies&#322;aw.

no, it is Wiold after Witek after Wicio and "wiciu" is declension of Wicio. I don't know that I write good becau I not good in ELnglish language, and I learn it. So when I will do some spelling error, You can correct me.
