My 3 year old cat throws up every single day. It know it's not a hairball. It's nothing but food and it's by his food bowl. He does it right after he eats. He's been doing this for a while. Should I be worried?

Yeah, my cat does the same thing and has off and on for most of her life, 12 years. She's not sick, but the last few years my friend has noticed that she has gained a few pounds (like going from 9# to 11#). So, I've kinda figured out two things could be going on (aside from the seasonal change when she sheds and DOES get hair balls).

#1 She is lonesome, lonely, looking for something to do and finds her food bowl and instantly finds something to do, but then she is stuffed, and starts to hack until she throws up and then starts to try to clean it up.

#2 She is bored and eats when she is not really hungry, thus overfilling her stomach. My friend had to put her cats on measured amounts of food because they were overeating. Heck, I never measured, I just kept her bowl full. Now, I fill it in the morning and she has to make due until bedtime, and there seems to be alot less throw up.

At any rate, she is very happy, friendly and healthy so I guess is more annoying to me than it is to her. I have just noticed less if I don't offer as much food. (She just came in here and sat looking at me typing, trying to get my attention, and when I didn't stop to talk and play, she went into the kitchen and started munching away. I guess they are not much different than we are!) <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Our kitty is 13 and for a few years we have had her on a special cat food we buy from our vet. She used to throw up quite a bit, but now it is only occasionally.

I have been feeding her a new food for indoor kitties from Purina that has 'greens' in it and she is also doing it much less now. Maybe the regular food was too rich for her?

Hello I'm new here..I have three cats and the oldest male (13) has thrown up since he was 6 months old. The vet gave me some cream to give him orally before he ate. The cream didn't help. Since I have three cats it is impossible to reduce his food. The other two cats do not do this. I'm at a loss as to what to do next. [color:"pink"] [/color]

Our cat Blizzard (white with one gold eye and one blue eye - we call him our "Mountaineer" cat) is our "barfer" of the clan. He scarfs and barfs - in other words, he eats too much too fast and then turns around and throws it right back up. He is quite healthy and the vet says it's just a quirk in his personality. ima - you said you were at a loss as to what to do next. All you can do is keep the paper towels and the carpet cleaner handy for cleaning up the mess and continue to love your kitty. He's not doing it on purpose or to drive you nuts. It's just who he is. Hope this helps.

Have you tried switching foods? Of course, that alone can cause them to lose it. We finally figured out that our biggest barfer was allergic to red dye #5 which is present in a lot of cat food. We found a food without this and he stopped throwing up.

Current, we have 2 inside kitties, one outside kitty that is actually ours, and I don't know how many of the neighbors cats/neighborhood cats are free-loading on our porch.

We're way out in the country and the cats in our yard are protected from dogs and other predators by our rampaging beast of a peacock.

I had this problem with a cat once. One thing that really worked was a little piece of advice the vet gave me. To put her food on a plate instead of in a bowl. It slowed her down as she had to eat slower and couldn't just gobble it out of the bowl. Believe it or not, it actually worked. She was also given a shot. I don't remember exactly what it was, but it was some sort of shot that kept her from throwing up as a reflex. That, plus the plate, really helped. But just try the plate idea for a while and see if it works.
