WASHINGTON (AP) - The House on Wednesday narrowly approved Congress' first attempt in eight years to slow the growth of benefit programs like Medicaid and student loan subsidies, sending the measure to President Bush.

Thanks for the article! One thing I don't understand is how the administration is going to cut Medicare spending during the same time as its ramping up the new Prescription drug plans. Seems like Bush would need to spend more on Medicare this year to ensure that an efficient system is put into place. Also, at the State of the Union he announced that he would be introducing new technology systems for Medicare. All of that will take money...I think we do need to improve the system...not just say we have and then come back to fix it in 20 yrs.
