I got my nose pierced 2 weeks ago. I had a problem with my first screw and so i went to another place to tell me what was wrong with it. The lady told me that it was embeding in my piercing so she changed the screw and put a different one. But now i think i have an infection because i have a little bump above my actual piercing and its constantly scabbing, but it doesnt hurt. The first piercer told me to clean my piercing with medicated lotion soap with chloroxylenol, its called provon. So one of my questions is, should i continue to use that to clean my piercing? The second one is, what can i do about that little bump? and the third one, is it normal for it to keep scabbing?
Thanks in advance

the more you mess with it (as in changing the jewelry before its healed) the more complications you are going to have. If the bump is scabbing I don't know what it is- I'm sure the body art editor will read this and post soon about that. If you just use a mild antibacterial soap on it once a day (you can wash your fingers and stick one up your nose and use another to kind of swish the screw back and forth or just use a cotton swab carefully) and an antiseptic wash (like Band Aid or Bactine wash) once a day with a cotton swab (again, carefully- so it doesn't slip out...) thats plenty of cleaning. You should start using saltwater and a cotton ball daily, too- dip the cotton ball in the saltwater and put it on there for like 20 minutes. It's a pain since you have to tilt your head but it draws moisture out of the piercing and helps it heal.

oh- is there a reason your "bump" is crusting up? the first time I had a bump I made the mistake of trying to pop it or scrape it off. DON'T DO THAT! If you are messing with it too much you will make things worse.

Thanks for the reply, im going to go back to the tattoo shop to see what she says. As for the second reply it stoped having those little crusty stuff so i dont if there is was really a reason for it to be scabbing. But will that little bump go away because i have been kinda messing with it and im tempted to pick it. Do i have to just keep cleaning it in order for it to go away? Is there an estimated time, cause it kinda looks like a pimple.

Edit: so i went back to the parlor and she said that its just a bump that is extra skin and it should go away in due time. hopefully she is right

There are three articles in the Body Art archive that talk about nothing but nose piercing, so if you go read, you'll get answers to most of your questions.

FWIW, I had that for a while with my nostril piercing too...it seemed like a zit, only sort of open on the side next to the piercing. I kept--sorry, TMI--squeezing the gunk out gently when I could, and made sure to keep cleaning it religiously, and it would get smaller--i.e. would almost seem to flake over and the flake would come off and the bump underneath would be smaller--and finally it went away. No idea what it was, but making sure I kept cleaning the piercing got rid of it in pretty short order.

Hi!
Lots of H2Ocean & a long enough post is what did the trick for me. If I use posts that are too short, sure enough it's like the bump is starting to come back. So I switch back & start upping the H2Ocean and whatta ya know? It's fine again. I've heard this can happen if the nose ring is too long also, from friction.
Katja said "would almost seem to flake over and the flake would come off and the bump underneath would be smaller--and finally it went away" Mine did the same thing.

Now, I have a HUGE bump behind my ear where I just had my helix pierced a few weeks ago. I went back to the piercer and he took the captive out & squeezed all this gunk & old blood out. He put it back in & said I should be fine now. However, although it's only been a few days, it seems as if it's filled up again and just as big. It seems the hole is not draining itself??? Oh well. At least you can't see behind the ear. LOL!
Good luck! <img src="/images/graemlins/irish.gif" alt="" />

Everybody remember, an infection is characterized by increasing redness and tenderness and will often have a yellowish or greenish cast to the fluids inside the swelling. If you have any symptoms like that, it's best to see your doctor or another actual medical professional in short order as you're going to need an antibiotic to kill the infection.

I GOT MY NOSE PIERCED ABOUT 6 DAYS AGO AND HAVE NOTICED THAT THE SCREW STUD THEY PUT IN LOOKS LIKE IT IS GOING DOWN INSIDE OF THE HOLE IS THIS NORMAL? I CAN MOVE IT TO WHERE IT STICKS UP SO I CAN SPRAY THE H2OCEAN STUFF DOWN INSIDE IT BUT IT SLIPS RIGHT BACK INTO THE HOLE-IN THE MORNINGS IT LOOKS LIKE IT IS EVEN WITH MY SKIN AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE A THIN SCAB OVER IT -SO THROUGHOUT THE DAY I HAVE TO KEEP PUSHING IT BACK OUT OF THE HOLE-DOES THIS MEAN THAT THE SCREW STUD IS TOO SHORT OR IS IT SUPPOSED TO DO THIS?
