I would be curious to hear whether or not regular massages have reduced migraines for anyone. I have migraines and I have an occasional massage when at a spa but I do not see any reduction of migraines as a result of an occasional massage. I wonder if regular massages (once a week or more) would be beneficial. I guess it could get expensive but if it helps it seems it would be worth the cost.

Hi, Kay! Massages do feel good, especially if you are having a migraine, don't they? I used to have them all the time and I had a physical therapist do manipulation to my neck to loosen the vertebre and heat and massage to relax the muscles and it helped but did not make them go away.

My husband usually gave me the most relief by stroking the back of my skull, at the top of my neck and changing with my temples and eyebrows (forehead) for 20 min or more when I would take medicine and lay with an ice pack across my eyes.

Regular (once a week) would not have worked for me as I had "irregular" migraines that might come 3 in a week and not again for 2 or 3 weeks. I think I had them most of my life, but they were worst during hormonal or stress periods. Since menopause, they have lessened. If they are really severe or frequent, a neurologist can prescribe a medicine that will almost completely eliminate them. It is something new that is being tried with great success. Good Luck and Best wishes. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hi Kay, welcome! I recently received an email from a reader who said he has had a lot of success relieving headaches with weekly soft-tissue accupressure type massages that was performed by an athletic trainer. I haven't had a chance to research it further, but it may be worth calling some trainers in your area to see if they are familiar with the technique.
Let us know if you have any success. I'll keep you posted if I get any additional info.

Thanks for the replies. I will definitely look into the accupressure type massages. I figure you really cannot go wrong with massages...even if they do not help the migraines, at least they feel great!

Hello everyone,
My daughter has cyclic vomiting syndrome or abdominal migraine, but doctors did not confirm the diagnosis. They kept saying that it is too complex. She was depressed and anxious. The only medication they offered was Depacote and possibly after that Topamax. She was on Lexapro and Klonapin but she was not feeling well. I found a lot of info about abdominal migraine and headache-migraine. My understanding is that one can transform to the other. I understand what you are going through but believe me abdominal migraine is not any easier.
I think we found a light in the tunnel. My daughter started a treatment with a homeopath who uses only natural products (homeopathic, herbal products and oils) and using them he has incomparable results with patients with both kinds of migraine. The treatment started on January 14. Toward the end of the month she stopped Lexapro and Klonapin gradually decreasing them. She is feeling great, not depressed and not anxious anymore. Her episodes stopped, Im hoping forever. Just for comparison, Im going to tell you that shes been transferred from hospital to hospital from the middle of November to the beginning of January with stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting.
I have my personal success: I am geting massages with eteric oils and after the tird massage i got rid of my insomnia.
I hope this may help.
