I often use tables to position my data on a web page.

When I use tables in my articles at BellaOnline, the tables are about five screens down the page. For example see: http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art39671.asp

Is there some other way to position data in HTML or CSS?

Hi,

You need to remove all the <br> on the table of the baby names.

The <BR> codes weren't in the original code I put in. Somehow the program put them in. I took them out.

Thanks!

Hi Glennys,

In general, you can use CSS to position parts of your webpage. However, I think that we are supposed to use tables in our articles here at BellaOnline.

Alot of Editors have trouble with the <br> code showing up in their code inadvertently. Usually it is created when you use the Enter key on your keyboard. <img src="/images/graemlins/computer.gif" alt="" />

The <br> means a break so yes, when you hit return on your keyboard, the generally gets converted into a <br> in HTML.

Yes that's right. But some editors who aren't familiar with this will use the enter key (usually after a closing tag and before the next opening tag) as they create their tables for their article.

<table> ENTER KEY
<tr> ENTER KEY

When this is converted to HTML, the extra enter keys are switched to break tags and all these break tags that appear within but outside of the table tags (as above) will end up causing a big empty space before the table (on top of the table) when it appears in the article. It's usually just a problem when using a word program to generate HTML code. <img src="/images/graemlins/computer.gif" alt="" />
