Yesterday my 4 year old dane was diagnosed with a possible ACL injury. The vet put her on Rhymadyl for 2 weeks and we are going to see what happens from there. He said surgery was a possiblity with ACL. Hopefully it not that serious, but after reading up on this it is a more common occurance than I realized. Wish Auggie good luck!

Connie,

That's a knee injury, right?

Hopefully Auggie will get through it without surgery. Please let us know and keep us updated.

Best of luck, Auggie!

Yes, it is knee related. The vet said it is an injury that football players get a lot. How ironic that she is the biggest slug ever! But I guess that is good so that we can keep her from injuring herself further. The good news was that the surgery was only $400. I expected something that cost a lot more.

I took Auggie in for xrays yesterday. We stopped the Rhymadyl Monday and she was limping again the next day. Turns out that her knee is fine and she has hip displasia. So I guess I have a lot of learning ahead of me. He put her on some cosequin (sp?) and we are going to do a month of Rhymadyl and she how she is then.

Hi I found your post and yes, ACL are very common. Our dog Bandit has had two surgeries one for each leg. He had his first one 2-3 years ago and recently had his second one. The first time we had it done, it was very scary and sad to see them helpless. We both cried because we are childfree and our dogs are our children. We spoil them to death. However, the second one was much easier. If you would like to write to me I can give you more information. We had a great surgeon and staff at our vet clinic. Make sure to check them out before going through with it. Keep me posted and good Luck

I know what you mean about dogs being like your children! Our Auggie is feeling much better these days. She is off the Rhymadyl and only taking supplements for the hip displasia. She even acts kind of puppyish these days.
